Each state needs to step up to the plate & legislate tougher laws for animal abusers. Abusers are everywhere! Whether it be Ashley Nicole Richards arrested for crush videos or Dan Kelley's brother who stole & decapitated his dog, they need to be punished!

> Jail them for life and throw away the key.
jailing costs about as much as housing them in a several-* hotel, and usually doesn't improve the jailed at all (while often worsening them further).

And these people are obviously *sick* , and so i'd rather advocate *treatment*.For example, locking them up in solidarity without any distractions (like electronic gadgets) and administering 250 ug of LSD. 24 hours would do. This would have a reasonable chance (certainly far, far better chance that any amount of jailing in the current prison sy$tem) of changing the perps for the better, for a tiny fraction of the costs of jailing.

And, considering the big picture, we need to *radically* change our $ick society, which currently breeds an abundance of sickness and sick people, abolish the roots of this evil instead of fighting the hydra-like symtoms.

Until animal abuse is treated as the serious crime it is people will continue to do it.I don't know how anyone can look into the eyes of an animal and harm it but than again I was raised to show them compassion.Just because someone doesn't like cats, dogs or other animals wild or domestic does not give them the right to torture or kill them.

Wonderful intent, but the wording is far too vague. There is nothing suggested as to what would be "just cause" and what authority would be used to determine guilt or innocence. Nothing spelled out as to whether somebody can "complain"/turn in somebody for a sick animal which could appear to be ABUSED (and truly isn't) and then the person could automatically be jailed while trying to prove innocence.

Sorry, but I have a problem signing such "blank" petitions. I also doubt Obama will have the time to deal with this with the election so near, and if he doesn't get re-elected, good luck with having Romney give a rip!
