Petition Update: Let Change Begin with the FDA

Thanks to the overwhelming support from PCRM members and friends, thousands of people have signed our petition to President-elect Obama asking him to make good on his promise of change and appoint a new Commissioner of the Food and Drug20Administration who will mandate the use of scientifically proven nonanimal testing alternatives when they exist. Almost 13,000 PCRM supporters signed our online petition. We have also received over 1,500 signed printed petitions in the mail, and hundreds more are coming in every day.The FDA admits that over 90 percent of all drugs that “pass” animal tests end up failing when tested on humans! This underscores the fact that animal tests don’t accurately tell us how safe drugs will be in humans. Next week, we will be submitting the petitions to the President-elect’s transition team so there is still time to add your name to the list of citizens who demand an FDA that will protect the health of people and at the same time prevent the suffering and death of thousands of animals in the name of science.And whether or not you have already signed the petition, I hope you will support our campaign to end the use of animal testing by making a contribution to PCRM to support all our work to protect the health of people and animals. I20also hope you will forward this message to friends who share our values of compassion for animals and people.
