On the 17th of November Nepal's main English language newspaper, the Himalayan
Times, ran a news story reporting that the first 25 monkeys were ready to be
exported from the American funded primate breeding facility in Lele, Nepal.
This in itself is unsurprising as we knew the monkeys would be ready for export
soon, however the question now is how will the Nepalese government respond to
American political pressure?

A ban on the export of monkeys is in place but the American lobby is increasing
the pressure on Nepal's government to sanction the exports, (as seen in last
week's article), so they at least get some monkeys from their $5M investment.
If we don't act to defend the monkeys now, the Americans will win and those
innocent animals will be exported!

After repeated attempts to initiate dialogue with the Nepalese government,
today we launch our own lobbying initiative to counter-act the American
influence and to remind the Nepalese government of their obligations to protect
their wildlife. If they won't listen to us, maybe they'll listen to the
influential members of Nepali society.

At periodic intervals will be releasing a diverse range of contacts for
Government officials, Media Services, NGOs, Trade Unions, Political Parties,
Trade Associations, Business Leaders, Expatriot Groups, Tourism Interests and
anyone else with power, influence and/or interests in Nepal.

If they can influence the Nepalese government, we will be providing you with
their email address. Please contact the people provided at the emails provided
to ask for their support as we try to raise the political pressure in the
monkeys' favour!

SAMPLE LETTER; (Feel free to edit or ammend):--

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to you to express my horror at the recent news reports that 25
monkeys will soon be exported from your country to be used in the most cruel
and barbaric research in American laboratories, which is highly unlikely to
generate any of the significant scientific advances being claimed by the
researchers.

Original Himalayan Times news story on the subject:
http://www.thehimalayantimes.com/fullstory.asp?filename=aFanata0scqzpla4Va0ta.axamal&folder=aHaoamW&Name=Home&dtSiteDate=20081118

The US laboratory where Nepal's monkeys will be sent, the Southwest Foundation
for Biomedical Research (SFBR), has a terrible record of animal treatment. Last
year they even unlawfully dissected a monkey whilst it was still alive, which
is one of the most shocking breach of American animal welfare laws of recent
years.

You can read all about the SFBR and their abuse of monkeys here:
http://www.all-creatures.org/saen/tx/res-fr-tx-swf.html

The American funded breeding farm at Lele is now well established, with around
100 babies who will soon also be sent to American laboratories, and this vile
farm must be closed before I will visit Nepal or buy Nepalese products again.

You can watch video footage of the Lele monkey farm here:
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=0uGqiJnbe30

The Working Policy on Wild Animal Farming, Breeding and Research (2003) which
permits this farm is contrary to the Wildlife Protection Act 1976 and it's
introduction under King Gyandendra's rule was highly suspicious! The law claims
to be intended to conserve wildlife and improve the living circumstances of the
local population, however there are no plans to reintroduce the monkeys who
have been bred into the wild, they will instead be sent to American research
laboratories, and the local population sees no benefit from either the farm or
the exports!

A copy of the Working Policy on Wild Animal Farming, Breeding and Research
(2003) can be found here:
http://www.dnpwc.gov.np/Wildlife%20Farming.pdf

I urge you in the strongest possible terms to use your influence in Nepal
rectify this situation, which is contrary to the religous sentiments of the
vast majority of the people you represent, by pressing for the abolition of the
Working Policy on Wild Animal Farming, Breeding and Research (2003) and the
release the monkeys instead of exporting them to the most gruesome fate
imaginable in the SFBR!

I also wish to inform you of my intention to join the international boycot of
Nepal, being led by the Gateway to Hell campaign, until the Working Policy on
Wild Animal Farming, Breeding and Research (2003) is abolished, the American
funded monkey farm at Lele is closed and the monkeys who have been captured or
bred there are released back into the wild.

For more information on the campaign to save Nepal's monkeys from vivisection,
please see the Gateway to Hell website:
http://www.gatewaytohell.net/

I will not be visiting Nepal or buying Nepalese products whilst Nepal sends
innocent monkeys to their deaths in American research laboratories and I will
use my influence to ensure my friends and family join the boycot also.

Yours faithfully,

******YOUR NAME HERE*****

NOTE:--

Some of the people included in this list may claim that they have no influence
over the monkeys fate but this simply isn't true, therefore we also request
that you politely respond to any replies stating that the respondant should
contact the Nepalese government because this is the aim of the initiative.

Please also forward copies of any replies you receive to:

Just had this back from postmaster:

MDaemon has identified your message as spam. It will not be delivered.
* 3.0 MDAEMON_DNSBL MDaemon: marked by MDaemon's DNSBL * 1.6 DEAR_SOMETHING BODY: Contains 'Dear (something)' * 8.0 BAYES_95 BODY: Bayesian spam probability is 95 to 99% * [score: 0.9778] * 0.2 HTML_10_20 BODY: Message is 10% to 20% HTML * 0.0 HTML_MESSAGE BODY: HTML included in message

It seems that if you send a message that starts with 'Dear', it doesn't get through and is seen as spam.
Do we change the heading?

As 80% of Nepal is composed of the Hindi religion, and tenets of their religion include the following, it seems as if they do not practice what they preach.

6. Hindus believe that this whole universe is God’s family. All people of all religions are His children. All animals and birds are His pets. Therefore, we must love all people of all religions, all cultures, regardless of their color, gender, geographic location or religious association.
. We must also love all animals and birds. We must not harm anyone. This Principle of total harmlessness towards all creatures is called Ahimsa in Sanskrit. Ahimsa means non-violence in thought, word, and deed.
11. “As you sow, so shall you reap” is the cosmic law that governs all human actions. Those who perform good actions experience good things in life and those who perform bad actions eventially suffer pain and misery in the world.
