We're burning the candle at both ends by pumping carbon into the atmosphere while burning and clearing forests. Then we put a bonfire under the middle by killing off wildlife and poisoning the water and soil. Good grief, can't anyone harness the greed and selfishness, ever?

I get so anxious any time I see a story on the news about a forest fire....I can't stand it...it's like I need to go save the trees and all the critters who reside there and I....can't. All I am able to do is pray...pray that the critters get a 6th sense and are able to scamper, run, and fly away for their lives. TY Tierney.

Again I am reminded of the lyrics, "When will we ever learn" - I guess not in time to save our beautiful planet and the only home we have.

Thanks Chris for sending me this and my thanks to Tierney for posting.

Thanks Tierney, and Chris for your message. I joined PRP a few months ago, and have encouraged others to join too.

The underlying forces driving deforestation must be stopped. I think PRP and its attempts at legitimate methods can go some way to helping with this, but there are always the illegal operators to contend with who are only too happy to supply humanity's demand for food and products, at whatever cost to rainforests. This underlying demand has to be addressed, and soon.

Excellent Chris! No matter anyone's anti-global warming opposition the rainforests are SO terrrifically vital in too many ways to name for the benefit of many species and various earth-scale systems. Oh, and including humans (had to toss them in just to be nice).

Wow great book, did you really look at the size of the rain forests - so small when compared with the actual land mass of the Earth and we are destroying it so quickly. So many people lose their lives, their livelihoods all because of greed. Not only is the destruction of the rain forests so sad but the loss of biodiversity is unbelievable, we know what we are doing and we still do it... I lived and studied in Costa Rica - they have tried to do better, education is so important, supporting local people, making new legislations to stop it, make it uneconomical for the businessmen - is all necessary. Thanks for sharing this with us.
