Personally I'm not surprised by this "amendment". There are still so many people who see this issue as simply a "women's" issue. It's not. All of us, whether we're men, women, or children are affected.

Men are always a part of pregnancy happening - even if it means the sperm came from a sperm bank. Granted women happen to be the ones who get pregnant & carry the baby, until delivery. But once a child is born, the responsibility falls to not just the parents, but all taxpayers. When taxes are paid out, by the citizens of this country, a certain amount goes out to fund programs for the poor, medicare, medicade, low-income housing, education, etc.

When a child is born, there is also the beginning of the "carbon footprint" upon the planet. Whether one is
"pro-life" or "pro-choice" doesn't matter at this point - there is a lifelong environmental impact made by every living breathing creature, but the human race requires food, clothing & shelter - all of which comes from a variety of industries. All of it costs money and places huge demands on limited resources, and causes pollution as well. The more children born result in the need for more jobs & the income to support these children, and a higher demand for housing, etc.

Why do other countries, such as China, now limit how many children can be born to a family? Because of overpopulation. Both China & India, as well as other countries place a higher value on boys vs girls. Their rates of abortion of girls has created an imbalance in male to female ratios.

So, yet again we have an undervaluing of women & our place in the world. We receive less pay than men, and have to contend with substandard healthcare options, as well as inequality in the way we are valued on other levels too. So, the battle must continue.....
