I have 1 canvas bag bought back in the 70's while in college. The handles are frayed but I look at it w/ delight and respect for all that it has done for our environment. My bags are kept in the car & I'm used to taking them everywhere. The nicer ones go w/ me to stores in the mall & I just say NO to the plastic, un-necessary ones.
Some are so tiny, in their own "envelope", they fit right in the purses, yet can carry a full load. Such simple step means so much.
I've been giving "Chico-Bags"(they unfold from their own little pouch) to my kids, friends... for holidays and bdays.

I have 10 great bags from Harris Teeter. We do our grocery shopping online, and pick-up from the store. We shop on Fridays, and when my husband leaves work on his way home he drops the bags off.... and they are ready for them to load for our pickup Friday morning. We paid 99 cents a bag and they are great quality and we are so proud to have made the switch!!

I have several bags I keep in my care and 2 that zip into little pouches that I keep in my purse. So now I always have bags with me hwere ever I go. I never thought of knitting my own. I'll bet that would make some rally nice and colorful bags. I'll have to give it a try. I gave reusable bags to my daughters for Christmas - filled with earth freindly cleaning supplies and books on ways to save the environment.
