I was one of those deeply depressed, with barely any notice as to some of the root causes...thanks for noting this!

when I was a child I was always depressed, I grew up in a foster home never belonging anywhere, not having the same name as the people I lived with gave me no idendetity, and I was always alone, I remember when I would get depressed we had a little dog and he would let me hold him, and I would hold him untill the depression went away that is why I am always saying a animal saved my life in the past if it hadn't been for him when I got lonely and depressed I do not know where I would be today. I found it also runs in my family which did not help. As of today I still have and cope with it and as of today I still turn to my animals to make the depression go away, and you know what. It still works.

I suffer from depression, did so all through my childhood. I found love and understanding and acceptance from my pets, they are my babies and my best friends who never say not now.

have battled depression and bipolar many years. i go thru checklists - quality diet, some exercise, get out of house by 11 am (under skies best), take lots of vitamins (oils, vitamins, MINERALS, amino acids, and multiple B), make a gratitude list on a wallet size card and read it, get in a social group (church, 12 step program, exercise class, etc.). when the depression causes me to loose sleep, can't concentrate, feel stuck and impaired = time for medication.

depression is the saddest in children. they don't know what to do or why. as an adult, try to show them acceptance and love which they probably get little of at home.
