Osteoporosis, which means "porous bones," causes bones to become weak and brittle -- so brittle that even mild stresses like bending over, lifting a vacuum cleaner or coughing can cause a fracture.

My mother's "brittle". One day she was sitting on the sofa and bent to pick up a book on the floor. She broke a rib! Since then she's been on meds and has show remarkable improvement.

My point is, that even at a later point in the disease, there is hope!!
