DOES ANYONE RECOGNISE THIS DOG????

Chief executive Christine Kalin said a dog was dumped in a cardboard box at the end of a driveway in Alfriston Road, Manurewa, last Friday afternoon.

Ms Kalin said the box the dog was found in has been sent away for forensic testing, but as the box was wet it is not known whether any evidence can be gained as to who was responsible.

"We haven't been able to secure any information from the public. We urge if anyone knows anything to come forward.

"This person must be stopped. They must be held accountable."

If you have information on this case, or any other incidents of animal abuse, contact the SPCA on 09 256 7300.

THIS DOGS COLOURING IS VERY DISTINCTIVE...SOMEBODY MUST KNOW WHO IT BELONGED TO...IF YOU HAVE ANY INFORMATION PLEASE CALL THE SPCA. 09 256 7300 THE MONSTER WHO ALLOWED THIS DOG TO SUFFER NEEDS TO PAY FOR THEIR NEGLECT!!!!

Poor baby, may God bless Bright eyes and give Him the strength to survive! It just amazes me that someone could be this cruel and since I believe in karma, someday he/she will be sorry that they did this to an innocent animal!

Noted. I do hope someone will come forward with information. This level of neglect would have taken place over time, so someone must have noticed. All of us who suspect cruelty or neglect MUST report it and keep following up until action is taken. That poor little dog.

What the f##k is happening to people? Ignorance and cruelty are growing exponentially. The gaps between the kind and the cruel, the selfless and the selfish, the stupid and the wise, the rich and the poor are widening at an incredible rate.

this could have been prevented if someone spoke up and notified the authorities. no animal becomes this abused overnight. we must find the monster who has no value for a poor animal's life. it is as precious as yours and mine.

So it's suggested that the person responsible must be held accountable. What a joke! If the moral freak who did this is found, he/she will probably get the usual slap on the wrist and go on with life not even bothered by the abuse. Until we get serious about cruelty to animals and enact major punishment, things won't get better.

So infinitely heartbreaking! I can't express my disgust. What the hell are some people for devil monsters. Such terrible animal abuse must for sure have been seen by others! Why are these cowards silent even now???
Please make a call to the authorities that these terrible monsters will get the hardest punishment!
I do hope that this poorest dog will get a second chance to become a happy dog.

Oh my, poor baby, so sad, I hope she recovers and lives happily ever after. The fact that she's not recovering as quickly as expected brings to mind 2 possibilities; she's too far gone to respond to treatment, or; there's an underlying condition (maybe a metabolic problem) that has caused the wasting of tissue seen in the photograph. THIS DOES NOT EXCUSE LACK OF TREATMENT OR CARE BY THE OWNER!

I would agree that this is one of the MOST disgusting cases of animal abuse and cruelty I've ever seen. I wish I COULD help, but how can anyone here do that? Is there a petition or something we can do, IF they manage to catch whoever is responsible for this?

People are just EVIL. They don't have a heart or any compassion for human life OR animals. Someone knows who did this and they NEED to speak up, because, the person that did this NEEDS to be PUNISHED SEVERELY. GOD BLESS YOU BRIGHT EYES....I pray that you pull through, you have SUFFERED ENOUGH.

NEW UPDATE ON BRIGHT EYES (sorry it's not much)

"The vets have said there is a small improvement in her condition.... She managed to stand on her own for a small amount of time and she is eating. The SPCA vets are taking the very best care of her and she will continue to be assessed day by day. It is still very much touch and go".

I will post any updates on here about this poor girl; unless you have specifically asked for a personal update. Please keep her in your prayers!

I hope they find the scum that did this to this poor baby, I will never understand how someone can do to this. How can you just let your animal just die a slow and horrible death, thank goodness someone found her and she has a lot of prayers being said for her. Please find the person that did this, they need to be held responsible for what they did.

UPDATE ON BRIGHT EYE'S FROM THE SPCA - just sorry its not the news I/we wanted.........

The Auckland SPCA is no closer to finding the person responsible for one of the worst cases of animal negligence staff have seen.

Bright Eyes, a Staffordshire-cross, was found abandoned in a cardboard box at the end of a driveway in Alfriston Road, Manurewa, on January 27. The dog was so emaciated it could not stand, its bones were shown and its claws were seriously overgrown. Despite media reports appealing for information on who was responsible, no one has been held accountable.

"There were a few phone calls from the public but nothing that lead us in the direction of finding the person responsible," SPCA Auckland chief executive Christine Kalin said.

"In terms of the forensics, unfortunately we weren't able to get any forensics off the box. So it looks like in this case we will be unable to find the offender."

Ms Kalin said the dog was in a frail condition and it was "very much touch and go". "There has been a little bit of an improvement, but it is still by no way out of the woods. "Ultimately what will guide our decision is what is in the best interests of the puppy. That's a vet decision, that won't be SPCA organisational decision."

Anyone with information on who may have been responsible should contact Auckland SPCA on 09 256 7300.

"We would really love to be able to identify who was responsible for this heinous act."

Ms Kalin has described the abuse as "absolutely shocking".

"There has been a period of neglect. This is not neglect that occurs over a week, there has been weeks of neglect.

"How someone can look at that dog in the face and not do anything is our greatest concern. The degree of cruelty in this case is one of the worst cases we've seen. And the degree of cruelty cannot go unpunished."

Information on how to make donations to the SPCA to help animals like Bright Eyes can be found here.
