Slaughter Trumps Sedation For Marius

Animals  (tags: animalrights, cruelty, slaughter )

Kopenhagen zoo officials as well as officials of zoo organizations try to explain why it was better to slaughter the juvenile giraffe and feed its meat to the lions. Sedation to neuter him would have called for sedation, not a good thing. Murder is.

Please read to full story, bottom line, to me anyway, is the fact that the zoo would have had to pay for the upkeep of Marius had he been shipped to another zoo. Fiscally probably not a good idea for the director there. Sedation not being used makes this no better than what they do in slaughter houses throughout the world. However they try to dress it up, it still is a huge disappointment. And watch out, any successful breeding program will try to do the same unless people pay attention.

Oh My God, on the BildZeitung, they have a blow by blow what happened to this unfortunate baby. Unbelievable graphic and horrendous.
The Bild Zeitung is a daily German paper that is, well, not conservative at all. In this case they are doing a service by pointing out that the world is outraged by what happened.

They did cut him up and feed him to animals IN FRONT OF CHILDREN! Aside from their faulty thinking, what parent allows their child to witness such a thing? Why? send green star | flag as inappropriate

I read this article every word and I am afraid it is not convincing. How many pure bred giraffes are EAZA releasing into the wild as part of their breeding programme? Why allow Marius parents to breed. To say that would be taking away one more element of natural behaviour is unadulterated nonsense when they have them in captivity in the first place in a country that is not their natural habitat. EAZA and WAZA would be better employed explaining why they are allowing so many appallingly bad zoos to exist in so many countries. How are these ( Born Free has written reports on numerous ones in Europe) contributing to the gene pool and conservation. I could continue and eventually run out of space.

Noted, I wish we would do the same in this country to all the hunters, there is certainly some genetic defect in them, that makes them aggressive to the point of killing defenseless animals.

They (parents, authorities, zoo director and RESEARCH) all lost their humanity and respect adverse living creatures and their lifetime and LIFE by itself.

PLEASE CREATE PETITION AGAINST A L L zoobreedingprogramms - there are only problems for all of these poor LIFE in the hand of all of these monsters.

MONSTERS should not have the right to live together with normal humans.

The zoo shouldn't breed giraffes, if they won't take care of them. This just screams of irresponsible behavior & cruelty towards animals..What the hell did Marius do, 2 deserve death. Nothing..he was killed because of the stupidity at the Zoo. Nothing will bring Marius back..If i could spit on Bengt Holst, I would.
