John Lennon's killer, Mark David Chapman, was denied parole for the fifth time Tuesday. The New York State Division of Parole issued a release saying Chapman's request was denied "due to concern for the public safety and welfare."

The relatively kind treatment -- this includes a lot of his time being spent outside of the cell, and regular congujal visits with his wife - is actually very kind, especially when you consider that John Lennon is dead and will never be able to converse with his loved ones again (on this side, anyway).
I hope Chapman stays behind bars. I just wish the sentence was a lot tougher for him.
