Today it's clear: We need to fix America's economy and solve the global warming crisis at the same time. This book illustrates how we can invent and invest our way out of the pollution-based "grey economy" and into the healthy new "green economy."

We can solve the climate crisis

Green Jobs Now

There's a strong, new movement growing for a clean energy economy.

Click here to send leaders the Repower America message.

It's been a hard few weeks to watch the news. Even a little scary. So, I thought I'd pass along some good news that I just heard.

This past Saturday, tens of thousands of people attended more than 670 events in all 50 states for the Green Jobs Now National Day of Action. The rallying cry: "Hey Washington -- It's time to Repower America with clean, green jobs!"

Wow -- think about that! While the Wall Street mess was dominating every media outlet, thousands upon thousands of people in cities like Topeka and Atlanta and Oakland took time out of their busy Saturdays to call for a new, clean energy economy and the jobs that go with it.

Even if you couldn't make it last weekend, you still can help build momentum for the message. Please take a few minutes to send a letter to the editor at your local newspaper. Just click here:

Why a letter to the editor? Because it has great reach. More people need to understand that our ticket to economic recovery is a transition to 100% clean energy -- a transition that will not only create millions of new jobs for families across the country but will enhance national security and reduce global warming pollution.

A movement is building. Your voice is important to make it grow further and faster. As the dirty industries of yesterday continue to spend millions on advertising and lobbying to stop the switch to clean energy, we need to explain there's a solution to the woes: Repower America. Please -- send a short note. It's easy.

Thanks,

Cathy Zoi

P.S. The Day of Action on Saturday was co-sponsored by Green for All, 1Sky, and us -- the We Campaign. We have some great photos and videos you can check out here. It'll brighten your day.

And the founder of Green for All, Van Jones, has an important and inspirational new book coming out on Tuesday, called The Green Collar Economy: How One Solution Can Fix Our Two Biggest Problems. You can preorder it here.

We highly recommend it. Al Gore says about the book: "Van Jones demonstrates conclusively that the best solutions for the survivability of our planet are also the best solutions for everyday Americans

This summer, a group of us dreamed about a national day of action for green jobs. It would do three things: 1) Send a message to our leaders that we're ready to build the new economy, 2) Build a powerful and diverse movement for green jobs, and 3) Elevate the voices of low-income people, people of color, indigenous peoples and other vulnerable constituencies.

Because of your commitment and hard work, Green Jobs Now was a resounding success.

Green-collar jobs are breaking into the political debate. Our movement has already touched millions and engaged tens of thousands, from urban centers to rural farming communities. At the center of it all are the voices and faces of people of color and people of modest means who have been left out of the old, grey economy.

More stories and images continue to pour in every day. As of this writing, 333 of 674 events have shared their story, photos, and videos. If you haven't already, check out the reports others have sent and share your own report (even if your event was small) by adding a story, some pictures or videos of your event:

Please keep the movement for Green Jobs Now going by collecting more signatures on the "I'm Ready" petition online and face-to-face. You can mail or fax your petitions here:

What's Next?

In the coming weeks, we will continue to update the GreenJobsNow.com website with new blog entries and content. Look out for a new video coming in mid-October that tells the story of Green Jobs Now. Along with the video, we'll be delivering all of your "I'm Ready" petitions, photos, and stories to the presidential candidates.

In November, we'll need your help to welcome the new Congress and President with a hand-delivery of the many thousands of photos and petitions from your events. If you missed our "next steps" national conference call today, click here to listen to a recording.

Now that September 27 has come and gone, this is the last email you'll receive from the Green Jobs Now team. But don't worry: You can still stay involved in the fight for green jobs, a clean economy and bold action on climate change.

Pretty soon you'll hear from all three co-producers--Green for All, 1Sky and the We Campaign--individually. You'll have the option to leave any of our lists at any time, but we hope you'll choose to stay and keep working for a green economy.

It's been an honor to be a part of this historic event with you. Stay involved, and keep up the good work!

Many thanks,

Luis, Michael, Ada, Liz, Adi, Jeremy, Josh, Julian, Ibrahim, and the rest of the The Green Jobs Now Team

just got the news that The Green Collar Economy is now a New York Times bestseller!!

That's right. A book about our movement is on the most prominent bestseller list in the country. On behalf of everyone here at Green For All, I just have to say congratulations and thank you!

Three Saturdays ago, along with over 50,000 people, you called for Green Jobs Now. Together we put the green economy on the national agenda, through 674 events in all 50 states and Puerto Rico.

And just two days later (yikes!), we asked you to make history again, by making The Green Collar Economy the first bestseller on green issues by a black writer.
With no publicity dollars and no national media platform, it was a complete long-shot. But we knew that if our grassroots network got the word out, millions of people across the country would know that we can build a green economy strong enough to lift people out of poverty.

And we did it!

Our nation and our leaders are beginning to turn to real solutions for our economic and environmental crises. You saw a student from Tennessee, Ingrid Jackson, stand up at the second presidential debate and ask the candidates about green jobs. You read that Congress is talking about including green jobs in an economic stimulus package. And you've heard Obama and McCain talk about green jobs more and more, recently.
Know that you did that. You made those things happen.
This is a movement. And it is your movement.

With a whole lot of gratitude,

Van Jones
President and Founder
Green For All
