ABC had Chevron. CBS had Exxon. CNN had the coal lobby. ABC refused to run our Repower America Ad! We're working to get 100,000 public comments to ABC before 20/20's next airing.

This kind of BS is why we are still "dependent" on oil.
Thank you, Laurel, signed and sent.

Our Repower America ad has a clear and simple message -- that massive spending by oil and coal companies on advertising is a key reason our nation hasn't switched to clean and renewable sources for our energy.

Here's the script of the ad:

The solution to our climate crisis seems simple.
Repower America with wind and solar.
End our dependence on foreign oil. A stronger economy.
So why are we still stuck with dirty and expensive energy?
Because big oil spends hundreds of millions of dollars to block clean energy.
Lobbyists, ads, even scandals.
All to increase their profits, while America suffers.
Breaking big oil's lock on our government ...
Now that's change.
We're the American people and we approve this message.

We had lines at the gas stations in the early 70's...those of us old enough to remember can recall it well. Here we are more than 30 years later and we are no further ahead. Can you imagine where we could of been now in our clean renewable energy if our Government had of taken the right steps. The people were ready then, the people have been ready, but again our policy is not run by We The People...it is controled by those who have the money which is the oil companies among others. So until the bleed the last drop out of the ground and us along with it...they didn't give two shits' about us, The People, nor our Earth Mother that suffers with this pollution. What they have failed to understand in their shortsigtedness is that the air they breath is the same air all of us breath. They may be able to move to a better neighborhood but ultimately they live on the same planet.

Thanks for sending a message to ABC last week. We delivered your note along with over 220,000 others. We had such a large response that the ABC website temporarily stopped accepting messages from anyone, anywhere.

You also helped build buzz -- lot of blogs and media outlets highlighted ABC's decision not to run our ad as both surprising and unfair. Great articles appeared in the Christian Science Monitor and Columbia Journalism Review, for example.

And the comments We members sent to ABC were fantastic...

Preston A. from Madison, Wisconsin, put it well:

"Along with thousands, I paid to help fund the airtime for this specific ad, and I expect you to do the right thing, right now, and run it. Be neutral, allow access, let America decide what it wants."

Eileen D. from Winthrop, Washington, sent a message that asked the crucial question:

"What side will history show you were on, as our hurricanes blow harder, our floods go higher, and our fires rage hotter?"

ABC still refuses to run the ad but the good news is that in the last few days, our Repower spot was watched over 200,000 times online. Members shared our story with over 190,000 more people. In the coming weeks we're going to keep pushing back on the influence of oil and coal companies in the public dialogue.

We will keep engaging until our messages get fair access to the airwaves. We know you will, too. Thank you for all your efforts.

Sincerely,
