I have found that those of US who work hard to do what is right are more likely to become depressed. Facing constant negatives, cruelty and injustices can hammer you silly. Those of US who are doing this work with great passion can find that they are all too often running on empty. Take heart Sue. You are VERY much appreciated for all the tireless important action you take on behalf of the least of these. Take care of yourself sweet Sue..

I admit I get depressed and feel hopeless at times, but we must continue to give the animals a voice. If we don't, then who will???

All I can say is, Lord bless those that do this heartbreaking job in a mighty way, for they have the compassion, love and kindness that each and every human should have towards defenceless creatures, but don't. Our animals need millions more of this calibre of person on earth.

I can really relate to this. Just reading articles about what happens to animals in this world makes me sick and I begin to cry and become anxious and very depressed. What would happen if I had to deal with this daily? I wouldn't survive!

I have no doubt it takes a toll since I can't begin to imagine the atrocities they witness and work with on a regular basis. Reading about the animal abuse and neglect stories here on Care2 and seeing them on the TV news puts a damper on my (once in a blue moon ;) sunny disposition and leaves horrible images burned into my memory, but to have to be there in person and see such terrible things must be 100 times worse. Thanks goodness for those individuals that help those creatures that cannot help or speak for themselves and lend a voice to their plight. They really help make a world a better place, or at least a less crappy one. Thanks Sue.

Noted! And Good God do I relate to this beyond words to post. I have to step away from the blog as I can feel my anger rise to the level of wishing I could kill these people myself and then I have to calm down and know that God has a wonderful plan of warmth for these horrible people that truly are not fit to live among us. This is why I could NEVER work in a shelter knowing that animals are going to be put down would be to emotional damaging for me!

I can only imagine what people who are out there in the field must face and I certainly appreciate how deeply it affects them. They deserve medals all of them for what they do. I'm having trouble trying to get my mind off those 32,000 calves who are starving to death in Egypt on board a ship, along with the disgusting practice of mulesing sheep - both of these things my own country is responsible for and it sickens me! Live export must be stopped, it's torture! ! Mulesing must be stopped, it's torture!

Too bad the animal torturers don't have consciences.

I've read about a lot of horror stories and signed a lot of petitions. There are times when I read a headline and just don't have the heart to read the story. Sometimes I just have to back away for a while, I just can't take it. I think it would be a good idea for people who have to face this in person on a daily basis to have some sort of counseling program in place to help them deal with this in order to avoid burn out and delayed stress syndrome.

Noted. I know what it's like to lie in bed and shed tears for those who can't speak for themselves, save themselves, and never hear a kind word from humans. My heart breaks, over and over. It gets very depressing and at times you can feel very defeated. But if we don't fight for them, who will? I try to find time to do things that are thereputic when I feel down. It helps.
