Marijuana could have many obstacles in harms way regarding the strength of it, today its known to be 100% stronger than in the sixties, hopefully they know what there doing by legalizing Marijuana.
It should kept in the home for it's uses but not driving and using it?

Marijuana Potency

MJ M. (117)

The myth of super potent pot has been just another of the lies perpetrated by the DEA.
There are laws on the books to punish drivers under the influence. Legalization is not going to put any more cannabis users on the road than there currently are. And if it helps people to get off of alcohol, road deaths will surely decrease.

Repeated claims that newer types of marijuana are far more dangerous than pot of the past create more harm than good

Thanks MJM on setting the facts straight about the lies on the ' supposedly'increase in potency. The lies are like the fairy tales of the wicked wolf eating the poor ol granny.
Now as long as the lobbist for cheetos and twinkies aren't behind the push to legalize I'll feel better !

One day it will get legalized-- because it will be a great vehicle for taxation! The same reason why alcohol and cigarettes are legal!

I got an idea. Let's not legalize marijuana, let's RE-LEGALIZE CANNABIS!
A substance that was legal in this country up until the conspiracy by Hearst, DuPont and Anslinger, joined onto later by Nixon and Reagon, that outlawed Gods' gift to mankind. A gift that has been utilized by mankind for at least 5000 years.

It's time has come and it should have been legalized years ago. It will certainly take the prison sentence out of the equation. Save tax payers $35, 000.00 a year per inmate. It has proven to help those with certain illnesses, eye problems, appetite, etc., It can garner taxes. The plant has the ability to be used in many ways, paper, clothing, etc. I agree, no one under the influence of any substance should be operating a vehicle or any machine..

Shirley - what would you say if Cannabis could replace dozens of dangerous, side effect rich, legal drugs? With the only 'side effect' being a little euphoria?
I hope you aren't one that has fallen for the 'drug warriors' nonsence that cannabis is as dangerous as heroin and meth, or oxycontin and any all of the legal poisons. Far from it.

In 1988, the DEA's Chief Administrative Law Judge, Francis L. Young, ruled after extensive hearings that, "Marijuana, in its natural form, is one of the safest therapeutically active substances known... It would be unreasonable, arbitrary and capricious for the DEA to continue to stand between those sufferers and the benefits of this substance..." Yet the DEA refused to implement this ruling based on a procedural technicality and resists rescheduling to this day.

If we are banning smoking where ever we can, why would we legalize Marijuana for recreational use when you are injesting a foreign substance into your body and you do not know how your body will react (even though you might think you do)?

Marijuana should be used for medicinal purposes only! Have a drink and relax!

MJ M. (117)
Friday October 30, 2009, 4:44 am
You got it all wrong, Marilyn. Alcohol is the poison. Did someone ban you from smoking in the privacy of your own home? Over 20 million people in the U.S knows exactly how their body will react. Even though you think you do, you don't have the facts at all.

Get the Facts

MJ M. (117)
Friday October 30, 2009, 4:51 am
There are hundreds of alcohol overdose deaths each year, yet there has never been a marijuana overdose death in history. The consumption of alcohol is also the direct cause of tens of thousands of deaths in the U.S. each year.
Why would you want to promote alcohol, Marilyn? Millions of people would rather relax with cannabis. We'll relax how we want to, you relax how you want to. Are you going to make me get out the studies showing how alcohol makes people aggressive, and cannabis makes people passive? Do some research.

Alcohol is one of the most toxic drugs, and using just 10 times what one would use to get the desired effect can lead to death. Marijuana is one of – if not the – least toxic drugs, requiring thousands times the dose one would use to get the desired effect to lead to death. This “thousands times” is actually theoretical, since there has never been a recorded case of marijuana overdose.

Marilyn, don't you see how ridiculous this sounds,...'when you are injesting a foreign substance into your body and you do not know how your body will react (even though you might think you do)? So, have a drink and relax'??

Valid medicinal value, it’s a victimless crime, the War on Drugs WAY too costly, too many arrests for simple possession, tax it and use the money to pay for health insurance and to reduce the deficit…Need I say more?

Woodstock Universe supports legalization of Marijuana.

Add vote in our poll about legalization at http://www.woodstockuniverse.com.

Current poll results…96% for legalization, 4% against.

Listen to RADIO WOODSTOCK 69 which features only music from the original Woodstock era (1967-1971) and RADIO WOODSTOCK with music from the original Woodstock era to today’s artists who reflect the spirit of Woodstock. Watch Woodstock TV.

Check out some of the things I've 'heard', Chaz. This is the foundation that Cannabis Prohibition was built on.
Don't believe everything you 'hear'.

"...the primary reason to outlaw marijuana is its effect on the degenerate races. Marihuana leads to pacifism and communist brainwashing. Marijuana is an addictive drug which produces in its users insanity, criminality, and death. Marijuana is the most violence-causing drug in the history of mankind. Reefer makes dark**s think they're as good as white men."
- Harry J. Anslinger - America's 1st Drug Czar (FDR - JFK)

"How many murders, suicides, robberies, criminal assaults, holdups, burglaries and deeds of maniacal insanity it causes each year, especially among the young, can only be conjectured...No one knows, when he places a marijuana cigarette to his lips, whether he will become a joyous reveller in a musical heaven, a mad insensate, a calm philosopher, or a murderer..."
HARRY J ANSLINGER
Commissioner of the US Bureau of Narcotics 1930-1962

"There are 100,000 total marijuana smokers in the US, and most are Negroes, Hispanics, Filipinos and entertainers. Their Satanic music, jazz and swing, result from marijuana usage. This marijuana causes white women to seek sexual relations with Negroes, entertainers and any others."
Harry Anslinger, U.S. Commissioner of Narcotics, testifying to Congress on why marijuana should be made illegal, 1937.
(Marijuana Tax Act, signed Aug. 2, 1937; effective Oct. 1, 1937.)

The criminalization of marijuana in the United States in the 1930s at the behest of the oil industry and others threatened by hemp, and the maintenance of the criminal status of cannabis to this day by crypto fascist governments, principally the United States, profiting enormously, directly and indirectly, from the "War on Drugs" while callously inflicting, directly and indirectly, major harm upon their citizens, is one of the great contemporary crimes against humanity. How long are we going to let those bastards get away with this?

"Prohibition goes beyond the bounds of reason in that it attempts to control a man's appetite by legislation and makes a crime out of things that are not crimes. A prohibition law strikes a blow at the very principles upon which our government was founded."

"The prestige of government has undoubtedly been lowered considerably by the prohibition law. For nothing is more destructive of respect for the government and the law of the land than passing laws which cannot be enforced. It is an open secret that the dangerous increase of crime in this country is closely connected with this." -Albert Einstein, My First Impression of the U.S.A., 1921

Chaz I think of you as one of my dear friends but my dear you're way off base when it comes to the ins and outs of the Marijuana plant. In the 60's I was exposed to the many drugs that were all around during that period and no, I did not become a user. But I was not judgmental either and became an observer over the years. Chaz the pharmaceuticals put out more damaging drugs then one can imagine. Marijuana, not altered, is as safe as a cup of coffee. Granted you should not operate any heavy machinery, etc, when taking any form of altering experience. The folks I grew up with that were users still have good minds. Work ethics are high.

An older friend, I believe that he was in his 40s when I met him, who was a famous composer, and having difficulty sleeping and on the verge of compromising his health. He was not a drug user, legal or otherwise. One night he called me and said that his doctor told him that Marijuana could help him sleep. He asked what I thought. Not having been a smoker, that includes cigs, I simply said what have you to lose and told him that I knew folks who said it helped them relax and sleep.

About a week later he called and sounded like a new man. Saying, Barbara I wish I had known about this sooner. I am enjoying some of the best sleep I have ever known.. He went on to write, for the movies, a piece that is still enjoyed years later. If it were not a privacy thing I would divulge his name. He is in his late 70s now and been using under a doctors advice since the late 70's..

This talented man was about to lose everything due to the lack of some serious rest.

A runner I know told me Marijuana opened his lungs allowing him to run longer. No cigarette smoker could ever say that and hold a straight face.

I believe that all substances should be respected for what they are. I have strong feelings about children not using any sort of substance until they are young adults unless under the advice of a doctor.. Prudence in using any sort of substance is the ideal we should all live by. Some folks eat too much! Some drink too much. Some smoke their brains out and cannot be without a cigarette in their hands all day long. Some drink one of the most dangerous products on the market! Aspartame filled diet drinks. Aspartame can also be found in other sugar free foods..It's one of the most dangerous chemicals on the market today and consumed by millions. Yet, it's legal!

Some pop legal pills like they're going out of style! Some drink coffee all day long. Some pop aspirin like it's candy destroying their stomachs. Yet aspirin has been around for over a century. Chaz it would be advantages for you to read what the other side is saying. The Dutch have been using for a very long while. Not to be redundant, the abuse of any substance is possible according to the user but that's the same no matter the substance being used!

The Marijuana plant is an amazing plant and some say the oldest on the planet. It grows fast! Has many uses besides the smoke value. Americans and others will, like they did during prohibition, find a way to drink, smoke, you name it, so why not tax Marijuana and decide on laws that will make it benefit the nation. Taking the prison sentence alone out of the equation will save tax payers $35,000.00 a year, per inmate.

Note: I have a lady friend, well into her 80's. She was a health care provider worked for many years with top notch doctors who told me, recently, that she had been a smoker, Grass, for many years and hoped it would be legalized. She is one of the healthiest people I know and her optimism is to live to be 120. Everything in life, is relative.

Barbara ~ Thanks for this EXCELLENT post!! I've known many with positive stories like this. The propaganda on marijuana are filled with lies. Alcohol and prescribed drugs (medication) do more harm to individuals and society than marijuana is ever capable of doing. Quite the opposite, marijuana has multiple, positive uses.

Everyone should read this article, How Marijuana Became Illegal

MJM ~ Thank you for the great links exposing the myths about marijuana.

We have entered a period of time in history where truth is coming to the fore and people are beginning to understand who is behind the lies that have held back progress in our society and the world. People are soooo ready for the truth!

I urge the drug czar to create an exit strategy for the war on drugs. As part of that strategy, I hope the federal government will step out of the way so states can try new drug policies.
