"President Obama's State of the Union address makes it official: the 2012 election has brought us back to 2011, when the outlines of his grand bargain with the Republicans became clear. In his vision for future, "austerity in people's programs..."

It is true, Obama's State of the Union speech was simply a waste of time. He understated that his Presidency is going to be four more years of nothing.
It's interesting that this article comes from The Black Agenda Report - Obama doesn't seem to have intelligent racial support as well.

Be that as it may...'Corporate Union '....I personally believe that our focus should be on local politicans and those in Congress [Rep.Dem.INdy] between now and 2016. The President will do what he will do, he has nothing to lose between now and then as to keeping his job but the majority of others..local/state/Congress have their re-elections to protect. It's the way to get the word out about both parties..those in line who might be thinking of running in the next Presidental election etc. Leave the Obama bashing to the teabagers..their pros at it :-) even if they have lost all credibility and are staying in the world of lower level tabloid sandbox of childish and or out right whacky... make believe messages/opinions. We need to battle the 'up and coming' on all sides if the Green and or Justice Party are to have a real chance in the next 'elections'..2014/2016. That is where our priorities should be me thinketh.

The Black Agenda Report comments on issues and news items that impact Black Americans. As part of their first amendment obligations, as they see them, the Black Agenda Report routinely comments on issues including the racism intrinsic to the GOP, specifically the tea bag wing; the institutional racism in all levels of our government and society that still negatively shape so much of the Black experience in the US; and on policies that our President, irrespective of his own ethnicity, that negatively impact life for Black people in the US and around the world.

It is not unfair criticism to suggest that the President has participated in class war by pursuing policies that, not only resemble those of his predecessor, but expanded those policies... ultimately for the benefit of the wealthy corporate elites and at the expense of the working class, many of whom are Black. The austerity cuts that the President will be pushing in the near future will hit Black Americans as well as other working class Americans quite hard.

Meanwhile, our President's foreign policy, particularly regarding Africa, represents a direct threat to the peace and stability of that continent. AFRICOMM is not so quietly building a series of military bases across African land. American predator drones now patrol African skies. Meanwhile, American corporations as well as corporations from around the world are buying up huge tracts of land out from under African people in order to drill and frack for fossil fuels, ravage the land and the water, and steal other natural resources. The final straw has to be that our President did nothing when the American military criminally provided material aid to the terrorist actions of the French military to reassert colonialism by force upon the people of Mali.

This President is not the worst president ever nor does this Care2 commenter think that. There are easily over a dozen Presidents throughout our history as a nation that were far worse. It is not bashing to report actions and policies that negatively impact the lives of people here and around the world. It is also not bashing to examine and to critique those actions and policies.

The President is not a king. We need not to bow and scrape before him. He is our elected representative supposedly of our will. As Americans, we have the right to speak out and to question authority, especially when that authority does things that negatively impact our lives and our environment. This is not bashing; it is asserting our right to seek redress of our grievances and, if we cannot have the economic and social justice which we seek, then at least we deserve a thorough explanation as to why we must settle for so much less.
