The numbers are So SAD! I can't believe that they think it was O.K.!?!?!?!

So they feel the need to take the Farly Mowet but they DON'T feel the need to take into custody all of the sealers who are NOT following the new "kill" guidelines. They should be ashamed of thierselves for doing that to them.

I pray that they all get exactly what is coming to them!

The votes don't really matter, the fact is they had no right to do what they did to the Farley and crew. Did you see they beat up a woman on the Farley? COWARDS ALL OF THEM, SEALS AND NOW WOMEN:( Blogs - Sea Shepherd Crew Update - Captain Paul Watson MySpace Blog

Sea Shepherd Crew Update

All 17 of the Sea Shepherd crew of the Farley Mowat were brought into Sydney, Nova Scotia by the Canadian Coast Guard late last night.

Captain Alex Cornelissen and 1st Officer Peter Hammarstedt were detained and charged with approaching a seal hunt without a permit. They appeared in court on the morning of 13th of April. Although not yet confirmed, the Judge is asking $5,000 each for bail.

Amber Paarman of South Africa, Dan Villa, Greg Hager and Merilee Nyland of the United States, Anne Fournier of France, Merryn Redenbach of Australia have protested that they did not voluntarily enter Canada and because they were forced at gunpoint into the country they refused to sign immigration papers to enter. They are being detained by Canada Customs and Immigration. The other eleven crew-members were released and are staging a hunger strike at the court house in solidarity with Captain Cornelissen and 1st Officer Peter Hammarstedt.

Amber Paarman was the only crewmember injured by the Canadian boarding party. She suffered a blow to the side of her head from a Fisheries Officer when she objected to being manhandled by one of the officers.

The Farley Mowat remains in the custody of the Coast Guard along with all the personal property of the crew. All computers and laptops have been seized by the Federal Department of Fisheries. All photos and videos taken of inhumane activities by sealers have been seized by the Canadian Department of Fisheries.

"It is these images of brutal sadistic slaughter on the ice floes that Canada is desperate to keep hidden." Said Captain Paul Watson. "What the Sea Shepherd crew have witnessed over the last two weeks has exposed the lies of Canadian government claims that the seal slaughter is inhumane."

Canadian Minister of Fisheries Loyola Hearn authorized an assault on a Dutch registered vessel in international waters in order to detract from the tragedy his department was responsible for two weeks ago when four sealers drowned while under tow by the Canadian Coast Guard.

In Canada it is illegal to film, photograph or even witness a seal being killed without permission of the Minister of Fisheries.

Loyola Hearn said that the action was taken to protect the safety of the sealers.

Captain Paul Watson, presently en route to Sydney Nova Scotia responded by saying, "The sealers have nothing to fear from our cameras and everything to fear from Canadian government incompetence. So far Canada has been responsible for four deaths while we were simply taking pictures of sealers inhumanely killing seals."

Europe will have the answer! A dutch ship international waters and European crew members that will be fun !

And believe me it will be very expensive for Canada this bloody seal hunt is just a EGOtrip of the man who thinks he must destroy the complete canadian fishing industry!

What safety of the sealers was "in danger"? The sealers are cold blooded murderers, God forgive me, but I wish all whalers and sealers to drown. Since they think it's OK what they are doing, I wish all of them dead. And all the others who would have the idea to start whaling or killing seals, to run afraid of a doom.

Amber is a friend of mine. She is quite used to hunters and their violent ways so would have taken it in her stride. They havn't done themselves any favours striking a woman that's for sure. More shame for Canada!

Beatrice, you really need to retract that statement. You're a sorry excuse for a human being if you don't. Shameful behavior!

I live in Canada and I am an American citizen and I have to say, a lot of these so called "seal activisits" have no idea what the heck they are talking about. Here's a newsflash, there are so many seal, if we do not kill them, they will eat all the fish and completly collapse the ecosystem of Atlantic Canada.Okay, no one is perfect. It took the slaughter and poaching of a few animals to relaize, hmm, we need to protect animals. You see this everywhere, USA, Canada, and Europe, Africa, etc. Every country did a big mess up. So, we chased away the seals natural predators. What do you want us to do? Tell me! If we let the seals grow and populate there will be no more Atlantic Salmon, you can forget Haddock, and in turn the whales will no longer travel to Newfoundland and otters will probably go to the North Eastern States. And the plague of seals will spread to the VERY delicate ecosystem of the North Pole (Northern Territoies, Artic). I wish there was another way. Do I like watching seals being clubbed? No! But we have to control the population somehow. Killing these seals is actually protecting the enviroment! Most of the respectable wildlife groups I have come across are not trying to stop the seal hunt, they are trying to find a more humane way to kill the seals and another solution to the population explosion. The reason why they use the clubs is because the seal hunters are so close together they risk killing each other. They also risk hitting a weak spot in the ice and causing the ice they're on to breack up. Also, the rifle is actually not that humane. Other hunters have talked about how if they don't shoot on the spot, the seals start wailing and crying in pain. The clubs actually kill them more quickly and efficently. Also, they CANNOT spoil the meat. Many "seal activisits" don't know about the diificulty of living in Northern Canada. Meat is the main diet, seal meat. They can get fruit and such but it only costs 5.00 per orange (if they are lucky) and its usually spoiled. The seal meat is their main diet and they can store it all winter. Canada will NEVER outlaw the seal hunts becuase that would sentance our Northern Citizens to death!
And about the Mowat, all who want to know, they captain and his ship helper were given a ticket to fly out of Stanfield Airport today (April 16). They were told to leave and not return. Most Canadians want Watson and his crew charged with attempted murder. It would do good for Paul Watson to stay away from Canada. He just made a lot of enemies and the coast gaurd intends to watch him as a potential threat. They will probably hand back over the ship and let them go on their way but they will be tailed by the coast gaurd the whole way.
But I say, let Paul Watson kill himself. The ice flow by Newfoundland is very dangerous and not for ameture boat lovers. It is easy to get hit by an iceberg there and dround. And the coast gaurd isn't always right there to save you.
So next time you want to end the seal hunt, remember ehat outlawing it will mean. The complete collapse of Atlantic Canada's marien ecosystem! But, if you want to save the world by saving the seals, nothing I say will change your mind and you will probably just post a post on here telling me how ignorant and stupid I am or telling me I'm the devil's evil meat eater! *shrugs* I know my fellow Atlantic Canadians wdon't like to see our happy seal buddies being clubbed, but we also don't want to see the whales dissapear!
