"A public comment period is now under way on a federal draft environmental-impact statement on the tribe's proposal to legally whale under their treaty. A public hearing is scheduled in Seattle on June 2. The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society will be sending a representative to oppose the Makah application to legally slaughter whales."

The gray whales that Makah would like to kill are on an annual 10,000-12,000-mile migration route right now. This makes them OUR whales.

Well, it took me time to understandwhat it is about. Firstly I thought it was about economical value of whale, lol .
Now,when I know what it is about-what to say-20 bucks as punisment for 10 hours long suffring and death of whale!
Is comment really needed?
It is cynical and as a slam to every honest and compasionate person!

I don't understand the need for the whale to die, anymore than I understand the need to kill any wild animal anywhere. If they must do ceremony animal death, then why not just count coup? Just reach out and simply touch the whale and then let it go on it's way unharmed.
