BELIZE CITY (AP) -- A construction company has essentially destroyed one of Belize's largest Mayan pyramids with backhoes and bulldozers to extract crushed rock for a road-building project, authorities announced on Monday.

"Belizean police said they are conducting an investigation and criminal charges are possible." ... - Possible??! There should be no question or hesitation on this. Too often it seems that greed and profit trumps everything else.

Now it is proved: not even historically valuable buildings are safe from government's or entrepreneur's hunger for money and they do it with any means necessary. It is a sacrilege. The Al Gaida has destroyed many statues of Buddha, because he is not holy in their eyes, And, a we all know so well, nothing is holy in big business. All historic places are potential targets from now on, particularly in South America and in Asia/Al Gaida areas. What is next?
