Last summer, a photo of a man cradling his elderly dog in Lake Superior pierced the hearts of millions. Schoep, a shepherd mix who turned 20 on June 15, passed away on Wednesday, but his image will remain a lasting tribute to the deep and loving bond.

May he find happiness aplenty as he crosses over the Rainbow Bridge. RIP Schoep and blessings to your owner who has to remain behind at this time.

I read this a few times on different websites yesterday /the day before and here again.
It's touching and always heartbreaking when your baby dies. It looks like he had a special life and most important was loved dearly.

Thanks Giana !!

As heartbreaking as this is, I am happy he died knowing he was loved beyond measure. RIP angel, your owner must be devastated - my prayers are with him. Where you are now you will never know pain again - you are running free!

Heartbreaking. I hope Schoep had an easy passage. Sleep soundly and dream sweetly, beloved Schoep. Courage to John at this most difficult and distressing time. Keep going and work on Schoep's legacy, John. Schoep wills you to do it, John, so continue with this work out of love for him. It will fill so many of the empty moments that now need to be filled. Know that we are thinking about you both.
