Maggie has left the zoo. Alaska's only elephant has begun her journey to sanctuary. She has been loaded in her special traveling cage onto a truck and is right now on the highway headed toward Elmendorf Air Force Base and the C-17 ready to fly. . .

Alaska's only elephant has begun her journey to sanctuary.

She has been loaded in her special traveling cage onto a truck and is right now on the highway headed toward Elmendorf Air Force Base and the C-17 ready to fly her to Travis AFB in California. She will be trucked from there to a PAWS elephant sanctuary about 85 miles away.

So far, all is going according to plan.

The Air Force is estimating wheels-up about 6 p.m.

Thank you so much, everyone ... for all your help ... Maggie is "journeying" to her new home ... it's going to be a LONG LONG Night ...

by dawn, Maggie will be "home" and in the company of other elephants which was denied her for the last 10 years by the Ala$ka Zoo and $ammye $eawall.

Oh, Nadia ... you've done so much for Maggie ... and we are all praying together ... she's already on board the C-17 Air Force plane and she's on her way to a better life ... thanks to you, dear one!

I'm sure that Maggie feels all the "love and compassion" from you and everyone here on Care2 ...

Keep visualizing, folks, Maggie is "almost free" ... a few more hours and she will be free to roam without the constraints of being in a cold Ala$ka cement block cell ...

California isn't Zimbabwe, but it's much warmer than Ala$ka and, hopefully, Maggie will have new friends and find some old ones, too!

It sure feels good to be able to cry tears of JOY for a change. I, too, wish I could be there.
