So sad. I don't know if we will learn soon enough to stop our own extinction...........after we destroy our planet and it's wildlife.

noted and thanks for the wonderful post Julia. We are destroying our world, killing our animals systematically. Only we have the power to stop this and we can do something if we all join together and make our voices heard once again..via congressmen/women and any other means available to us.

Are we to regard the world of nature simply as a storehouse to be robbed for the immediate benefit of man? . . . Does man have any responsibility for the preservation of a decent balance in nature, for the preservation of rare species, or even for the indefinite continuance of his race?

Went to the site! It is about Greed! Deforestation and now Obama opening up our Nation's Protected Parks to Hydraulic Fracking and Coastal Shores to Deep Water Oil drilling which includes Alaska. If I remember right, that is what he ran his platform on, against the republicans chant of "Drill, Baby, Drill!" Whether it is Ivory, Oil, Coal, Gold, Uranium, etc. - Greed that's precedence over the Environment and Wildlife. No matter what the people want.
Our EXTINCTION is next Don't you think that the World's Leaders on ways of decreasing the population because at the rate that the human population is growing, we are on the doorstep of facing food shortages and clean drinking water. What is on the plate and has been for a long time, is a limited Nuclear War, or most likely something like the "Black Plague!" This is No Joke! and I am not crazy! "Soylent Green" an overpopulation and the greenhouse effect have made life extremely difficult ,

It's reports like this, of which there are far too many, that can cause one to despair over the momentum of man's indifference and rampant greed. Like others here, I pray that the collective majority of people who oppose this sort of thing act to reverse the trend. If not, we are all lost.

One thing that we all can do is to check ingrediants in products that you buy containing oil. If it says Palm Oil, put it back and tell the store manager to consider not stocking his shelves with a product that is implicated in myriad enviromental catrastophes.

This would be a great tragedy to lose these beautiful animals. These forests are being decimated because cheap cookies need to be made with something so the elephants suffer and people get diabetes instead.

Yeah. And in our infinite "wisdom" "intelligence" and "progress," the human race flourish and thrive. NOT.

You don't have to wait until December 21, 2012 to witness the demise of the earth and its predominant species. Look around. We're already there.

Hunt people and let elephants thrive on the island. As it turns out, it seems to be the only way not to decimate the remaining elephants.

Extinguish all the animals on the planet by our greed, avarice, lifestyle? We must boicottear to a product from elephant poaching and prevent the collusion of governments in their marketing to achieve partly prevent further elephant in captivity anywhere in the world, which are not part of circuses, not will purchase items containing ivory. These animals can not miss.
