I cannot get the video. After I click the 'visit site' button I get a blank page. Dogs are way smarter then humans give them credit for so Tommy understands what's happening. Thank you for posting, Julia!

I saw the article in Italian, but would like to read it in English as my Italian isn't so good! I can't open the site. Can someone give me the URL (link)? I can try then to type it in rather than try to get transferred through the "visit site" field. Thanks.

It doesn't get more special than this. It reminds me of Greyfriars Bobby, the dog who lived on his carer's grave after he died and was looked after by the people of Victorian Edinburgh. Or the dog of whom a statue has been raised outside a train station in Tokyo. Every day he met the man he lived with at the station, and after the man died at work of a heart attack, the dog continued to sit outside the station, again looked after by local people. Of course, there's a lesson in this. Person and dog are friends. All good relationships of any sort are grounded in friendship first. But then there's the matter of loyalty and the strength of friendship, something we humans learn about when times get bad and we discover who our real friends are. If you have a dog, you know he will be first among them. These qualities are per se love: "Love is not love which alters when it alteration finds."

This story has got to be one of my favorite animal stories of all time. Just looking at him sitting so attentively in the church for mass gives me tears of joy. What a beautifull dog and i'm so happy and relieved that he'll be looked after by everyone in this village. I only wish somehow we could get those callous people prospering from the dog meat trade to see in these wonderfull dogs what we see,and not see them as just meat. We can all hope. Thanks very much for sharing this with us all!!!!

What a loyal and special puppy he is!! Love like this simply never dies! You can tell the dog is well-looked after (thank goodness!).
I must say, that is a beautiful church--I imagine he finds much solace there--a place of serenity and grace, which he attended with his person.

If only all humans were so loyal, faithful and true. :)
Tommy is a beautiful dog and although it seems everyone has "adopted" him and shares in bringing him food, surely it would be better is he was properly adopted into a new home by somebody who would love and take care of him like Maria did.

For the friends who did not receive my info message, kindly forwarded by Philip. I live in the same region where the village of Sandonaci is located, where Tommy lives. Just some more details. The dog has been "adopted" by the whole village, so Leslene got it wrong when she writes "shame". The Mayor himself wanted to keep him, but then he thought it would be too selfish towards the other citizens. The local chemist takes care of the dog's health by providing him with vaccines and medicines (also against fleas and parasites). Many people from other parts of Italy would like to adopt him but maybe it would not be right to take him away from Sandonaci where he still goes to visit Maria's tombstone and to the church, that was the last place where he could see her during her funerals.

@Veronique
I hope you were ironical when you wrote "Everybody finds comfort in Italian churches", my dear friend. The priest of Sandonaci is a very nice EXCEPTION to the rule. The majority of priests, at least here in Italy, are VERY BAD people towards animals. Not only they do not allow animals in churches but, whenever they can, they try to discourage people from adopting animals and are also very CRUEL towards them. Four of my thirteen dogs were rescued from a priest (a young man, so no excuse of brain damage due to ageing!!) who tried to kill them when they were little pups. This is not only out of my personal experience. All the people I know who are active in animal protection here have had negative experience with priests and nuns.

we should not be surprised that the animals show love to their masters, certainly some animal is different and special than the others, as is the case also for us humans, but one thing is certain the animals have a form of love and gratitude very different, more spontaneous and totally free, with respect to the one of the man.
All the Italian media have shown the history of this dog "Ciccio" and its adoption made by the whole community of his small town.
Noted thank you so much Nicole for this share, I would never have thought that a small love animal story could have done a long long way up to the U.S.
ty to Philip also for the fw

The link does not work, this is the story: (sorry my poor eng)
After two months after the death of Maria, the old woman who took care of him, still harbors the hope of meeting her and, with the help of the parish priest, the dog waiting her every afternoon in the churchyard of the parish.
Ciccio is a 14 year old German Shepherd, every day, accompanied the elderly to church and then came home with Maria.
Deprived of his beloved Maria was almost adopted by the entire community of San Donaci and, in particular, by Don Donato Panna that helps Ciccio to stay in the church during Mass and has arranged a space for him during the rest of the day.
Do not bring himself to let it out, or to break the thread of hope that keeps the dog tied to the memory of her owner, who died suddenly in November.
Ciccio has not forgotten their habits and he expect to come back with Maria to attend the church of Santa Maria Assunta.
After the Mass, the dog is outside, in a small enclosed space of the church where many of the faithful and friends of Maria lead the animal food and water. In accordance with the choice of the parish priest, all are contributing to his care. But has anyone thought about the dog deserves the affection of another family, and through the social network Facebook, has published his story and his photos.
Ciccio is sitting right next to Don Donato, and looks wistfully. Meanwhile, the community is rewarding the loyalty of the animal with attention and affection, as does Don Donato who, struck by the behavior of Ciccio, plans to take care of him and "give him" a place in his parish. A gesture shared by the entire community.

I think this sharing is appropriate with this article...... Italian Dog Finds Comfort In Church

I have just finished reading The Gospel of the Holy Twelve on the internet. It's one of the books that was
left out of the church's Bible. It speaks of Yahshua's (Jesus) relationship with the animals. What an animal
advocate!!! If you're open to it - it will certainly thrill your advocate soul!!!
