Tell your Representative and Senators and President Obama to expose abuse and hold perpetrators accountable. Please sign and help get the word to Washington to begin a full and open investigation into the torture of prisoners authorized by Bush Adm.

A full and independent investigation of "torture" might be beneficial if it establishes:

(1) What is "torture"?
(2) Is "torture" legal e.g. never, sometimes, always, and why/why not?
(3) Does the USA "torture" people?

George W. Bush on more than one occasion said (on my TV set) that the USA does not "torture" people because it's un American. I suspect he believed what he said because he had defined all sorts of things which I regard as "torture" to be "enhanced interrogation".

Once the above listed items have been defined then the discussion can go on with more light than heat.

all this is going to do is put in danger american troops, american politicians and civilians even more than they already are, where is the outrage on how al-queda/taliban treat us troops? all i hear is what the U.S did to "torture" enemy combatants, but the real attrocities and torture are done to any american and even iraqi civilian and afghani civilians by these islamic extremist, waterboarding would be a walk in the park compared to what i have seen done by these terrorists to any captives..where is the outrage!

Dan, I think most can empathize with both the loss of our reputation by heinous deeds done in our name and still feel deep and sincere empathy toward our troops and civilians in Iraq. Many have posted articles on just those topics, perhaps you missed them? But I do not believe that we endanger our troops by dealing with our own wrong doings, and I do hope the outcome is one that will help to show those who would be interested in hating America, to see that we can make mistakes and correct them - and very human thing. Whereas, those that promote terror tactics against others do not admit mistakes, nor will they have the advantage of saying we do something that we are hiding. Torture has not saved a single life, but has endangered many. Please consider that not everything said to promote this wretched crime is true.
