The older I get, the luckier I feel not to have been busted for breaking a sex law. It's not that I have been doing anything particularly scandalous. Public sex sure isn't my thing, and I'm not in the habit of spamming my friends and colleagues with....

It is ridiculous that in Alabama people have to go to such lengths to buy sex-related items. From what I understand in order to buy "sex toys", the buyer has to sign a statement that the item is to be used for "medical" reasons as recommended by a doctor. Ridiculous.

We are a dreadfully prudish nation.

I live in Georgia and this state is part of the Bible belt, therefore. sexual laws are very stringent in deviating against the norm., Interesting article, thanks Kit

And we wonder why we have so many rapes and crimes of sexual violence? Some of these are plain crazy. America the free? I think not.

Like Leigh, I was born and raided in the Bible Belt, in Texas. While some of these laws are a little over the top, I have no problem with punishing a 17 year old for engaging a 15 year old in sexual acts, or for punishing the kids who were distributing "provocative"pictures of themselves via text. Perhaps the punishment mentioned in the article was a bit too harsh, but these are just KIDS, who need guidance and a realization that sex is serious. It can be damaging if not taken seriously. They just need to be educated better.

Kudos to you, Kit. It explains much as to why there so many problems with hypocracy of sexual abuse within the states. where the parameters and guide lines for ruling on what is illegal, have totally gone overboard..Especially with sex being so prominently featured in all facets of the sales market, and children developing early sexually, as in the past. Really, have the legislators forgotten that less than a hundred years ago, it was common for a young twelve year old female to be married to an older man, or for two youngsters starting a family early.Sexuality hasn't diminished but our legislators capacity to rule upon it wisely, has greatly regressed in understanding of individual cases. A dangerous precedent and doomed to only increase the rebellion of all young people against authority.. Sexual education being taught early is the key. Parents are the primary teachers , guardians and guides for helping the youth to act responsibly. They should not be subjected to prosecution for their efforts, they should be encouraged and supported. Maybe we'd have less children in danger from predators.Peace in Our Quest for Truth.

Education and honesty will do far more then narrow untenable laws. Certainly we need to have clear laws about certain aspects of sex, stringent laws for predatory actions, but laws that dictate what consenting adults can or can not do? Prohibition does not work, and personal morality can not be legislated.

I have been laughed at and ridiculed for alerting to the fact that Congress has had 20 bills sitting in wait to take parental rights away - similar to these but hey, I don't need to worry my government will never do that.
WAKE UP AMERICA you live in a Police State.

In New York the statutory rape laws have an exception for a teen or young adult whose age is within three years of his/her partner's age; that should be a model for other states.
