Peter Falk - The Passing of An Icon. Good Night Lieutenant Columbo.

There is something especially cruel about knowing that a mind-robbing disease like Alzheimer's was what took Falk's life. In all of his roles, but especially on Columbo, his was always the most perspicacious face on screen.

Ii'm sorry to hear it, I remember watching Columbo with my older brother when we were kids .I convinced him Columbo read minds.Whenever he gave that silly look (always) i'd tell him look there he goes! He went on thinking that til i told him some months later. The mind reading thing was pretty good tho..That's the closest i knew him but that's enough. .I'm sorry for his loved ones and the suffering he must of been in...Bye Peter, have a peaceful time in the after-life. You won't be forgotten while we're around!..... Thanks for sharing!

Peter Falk was THE BEST : ) We loved him as Columbo, as a human being and we will miss him and remember him for the laughter and the soulful nature he so willingly embraced life with...
Falk tries to analyze the character and notes the correlation between his own personality and Columbo's:

I'm a Virgo Jew, and that means I have an obsessive thoroughness. It's not enough to get most of the details, it's necessary to get them all. I've been accused of perfectionism. When Lew WassermanLew WassermanLewis Robert Wasserman was an American talent agent and studio executive credited with first creating and then taking apart the studio system in a career spanning more than six decades.-Biography:...
(head of Universal Studios) said that Falk is a perfectionist, I don't know whether it was out of affection or because he felt I was a monumental pain in the ass."

Good job, Carole. Thanks for getting Kit's news out for her. You're a doll!

Peter Falk's acting was unique. I will miss seeing him except reruns of course.

R.I.P. Peter. Thanks for the memories.

Thanks Kit and Carole. I have always loved murder/crime shows and books and part of the fascination is trying to guess the culprit. "Columbo" was the only show/book I recall that ever let you know up front "whodunnit". Amazingly that didn't spoil the show...and even made it uniquely interesting as you watched Peter Falk "nibble away".

TY Kit.
Peter Falk , so many great characters.
A Woman Under The Influence was phenominal. Also, who could forget Vince Ricardo's "Serpentine! Serpentine!" from The In-laws (THE original 1979). And Grandpa from The Princess Bride.
So many great characters ...

"Sc'use me, sc'use me"....gone but not forgotten. See Kevin Pollack's
dead-on impersonation of our beloved detective on HBO. Remarkable!

We will miss you big time Peter. Thanks for making it look easy. R.I.P.

Peter was a great animal rights activist - he did many good things that went unnoticed by the general public. Always liked him - will miss his presence on this planet.

Peter Falk was a wonderful character actor who was memorable in many other films besides his Columbo role. Rest in peace, Detective Columbo.

The world has lost another great, classic actor. Although there are good ones around now, they just "don't make them like they used to!" I remember him best from Columbo. RIP Peter.

Peter Falk was one helluva actor. I've missed seeing him on the screen and I do hope our souls survive. What is wonderful about actors is that their legacy is left on film and we can watch them anytime we want; a part of them is always with us. How lucky we are; how sad that he contracted this dreaded disease. I hope he is in a better place, happy and content, with his mind in perfect shape. Long live Columbo!

My mum absolutely adored him. Still remember watching Columbo together with her in the '70s, though at that age I was more fascinated by his basset hound. Thanks, noted.

He was a talented actor that will be sorely missed. He didn't just play the character, he interpreted it and imbued all of his characters with such depth and believable traits. That's a rare gift in actors (especially amongst the ones we have today).

Cheers Kit....

Columbo: (How To Dial A Murder)
I must say I found you disappointing; I mean your incompetence. You left enough clues to sink a ship. And for a man of your intelligence, you got caught in a lot of stupid lies.....

Loved Columbo and now my 7 year old daughter loves him too.

Just one more thing , , ,probably one of the most quoted lines from that show. Peter Falk was a great actor. To know that he and his family suffered from alhizmer's is a terrible thing. My father has parkinson's.
