This is an interesting post about a new study tracking the attitudes of people who have lost jobs in the Great Recession.

Depressing just to look at the numbers.

And what is the toll of suicides and suffocated children--
better than starvation or rape on the streets?

A sad result of harsh economic times, infanticide, suicide and an increase of crime. I have to wonder when one of our "leaders" will address that?

Thanks Kit for the article and bringing attention to a highly important topic.
The trauma is that so many people are being affected by this that the numbers are staggering. Maybe if our govt. paid more attention to whats going here in our own country and hire the right people for the jobs and get rid of the imbeciles, things would change for the better. Until then, everyone is suffering because of the economy unfortunately. TY Kit for caring hon.

Bless us all,

as self-made rugged individuals, we Americans need to rethink this machine they pulled around us, and change everything!!! Screw them, we can come up with our own solutions, and let them try to stop us. And we are taking our friends up with us!

This shouldn't be happening! It could have been avoided for the most part. GREED has so many victims --greed on the part of Wall Street bankers; greed on the part of corporations that choose to outsource their jobs; greed on the part of politicians whose pockets are lined by corporations in return for legislation that favors their companies --and it goes on and on. So many lives ruined for the benefit of so few...

Unemployment has always been with us; however, like in the Great Depression, people are very reasonably more afraid now since getting re-employed at near/at one's previous salary and benefits is a heck of a lot harder today. It's especially hard on older workers (who face employment discrimination in even the best of times). Of course, the fate of many businesses also isn't particularly healthy. Small companies (like the small law firm I work for) have been hit hard financially. And a company in distress isn't likely to be one that has the wherewithal to hire new workers.

It's a mess.
