But what makes it so dangerous to Romney, it seems to me, is that the Bain Brahmin didn't just fire thousands of working class people in restructuring and in closing companies. He made a fucking unimaginable fortune doing it. That's the issue.

If you can read this and not find your mind wandering to movies like "Wall Street" or "Boiler Room" even the new hit "Too Big too Fail" then I wonder where you have been during the last few years. Romney's accumulation of massive wealth on the backs of the working class people he fired would be hysterically funny, if it were not true. How can any one trust this incredibly rich jerk to run a country of rapidly decreasing wealth? Because he can dump the workers and keep on running, like the energizer bunny? Business experience, if that's what you call Romney, is by no means a magical understanding of government, and certainly this man has no understanding of the critical situation of people living near or below the poverty level.

Romney purchased his "endorsements." He will do the same as president.

Noted. What you dont read is how companies like Bain also puchase hospitals! Do you think they would have your best interest in mind? It wouldn't be just people getting fired, its suplies and care being cut. Not to mention the banks some of these firms own, and backdoor deals they have in place with our goverment Private Equity firms (for the most part) are bad capitalism. As they are not good for any economy but just the opposite. I believe when Romneys records are public on this matter he will surely lose.

There oughta be a law against letting people go in trying to save an organization from the path to failure. And if the financial folks make money in the process, they should be eliminated with extreme prejudice.

He started Bain Capital with foreign investment money and he paid them back by shipping American jobs out of the US while robbing retirement and health care funds from the worker of the companies he shipped overseas.

Yes, Ralph he did that and more. Mister Plastic Fantastic is the worst kind of deceitful business man, the kind that screws his employees while counting his dollars. His company is also high the list of companies that have raided pension funds.

Who in their right mind would vote for Mister Plastic Fantastic or Yes I Will Obama when this nation is fortunate enough to have Rick Perry. Look what he has done for the Lone Star State.. Why are we talking about the viability of Romney when we have the likes of Perry to sing the praises of.

Romney's accumulation of massive wealth on the backs of the working class people is GOP (Greedy One Percenter) approved, just like Bu$h League wealth via OIL, Coal, Big Pharma, Military-Industrial Corps.etc.. Be it Killing an enemy, or killing a friend, or killing an entire planet, RepubliCONs (and some Corporate Democraps) see no vice except for NOT making money on it!:(
The rest of the RepubliCONs lust after Romney's "ability"!

Yes, he could very well lose. However, EVERY GOP wannabe is a far cry from a might win. They are all from the bottom of the barrel. Every one of them are loyal to the wealthy, corporates, and fanatics of some form of "way out there". I hope the folks with blinders on will take them off and see that there is REALLY no "ideal" choice within either party, and look elsewhere.

I don't follow US politics.Like all others they are so boring. But US politics seem to be the cheesiest of all. It's all so fake. I'm amazed at how the international media follows political events in the US, sometimes more than they're own. What I do know is that America is no different than anywhere else. It elects lying parasites who then makes a total irreparable mess of things. Just look back at recent times for the USA. The economy is almost ruined by greed and incompetance and lack of government control, the country is continually at war with someone and American men and women are constantly getting killed, the wars are costing a fortune, world-wide opinion of the USA`has never ever been lower and lots of people who had homes have lost them and their jobs. Who needs politics? Over here in Australia they have stands in shopping centres offering USA houses for sale at low prices - probably the same homes that the poor bastards lost when things went down economically. I didn't see anyone buy one though.

Let's not be too quick to talk about the possibility that Obama will be replaced with Romney, or Perry for that matter -

Maybe we shouldn't be too quick to judge Obama and his accomplishments to date. Give him time. Rome
wasn't built in a day. And just which of the current Republican candidates would do better that this -

Obama's Stimulus Failed To Keep Unemployment Below 8 Percent As Obama Promised.

Obama's Stimulus Failed To Create The Over 3.5 Million Jobs That His Advisors Predicted It Would Create.

ObamaCare Has Failed To Make Health Insurance More Affordable and Americans Are Losing Their Coverage.

Obama Predicted His Investments In Green Energy Would Create 5 Million Jobs yet the Energy Department's
Loan Program Has Fallen Far Short Of The 65,000 Jobs That It Said It Would Create.

Obama's Housing Programs have "Dramatically Underperformed".

Obama Promised To Cut The Deficit In Half, But Has Failed To Even Present A Plan That Would Bring The
Deficit To Those Levels.

Patience fellow Americans, these things take time.

Right now, Romney is only ahead of the Newtster by 2 points. It seems his negative ads are working on those who lost their jobs in SC.

Whoever wins the nomination will be in for an uphill climb against Pres. Obama in November.

Vote Obama!!!

and he seems so nice - like the man you'd just love to have as a neighbor - sort of like a serial killer isn't he - seems some psychopaths are found in your ordinary business as well - this piece of crap enjoys "firing" people - he can walk all over them - and expect envy because he has more bucks than your average crook! Who wouldn't want such a successful man as the leader of the free world?

Though Romney may well be all that and more the rest of the GOP "line-up" certainly doesn't offer any thing to voters who have a fully conscience mind.
I like Rocky Anderson, Gary Johnson and Buddy Roemer none of these guys have a snow-balls chance on a hot summer day. I think both Rocky and Buddy are just way to honest to be successful on the national scene.

You cannot currently send a star to james because you have done so within the last week.

Kit, your very first comment on this thread of Thursday January 12, 2012, 6:28 pm was spot on.

We need to get the money out of the elections, the only ones who can get elected anymore is who can "buy" the various seats in Government. Until we get the whole election process under control we will keep getting people who haven't a clue how to truly run a Country that is fair and equitable for all. A Vulture Capitalist is simply that, a Vulture and has no place in the Leadership of this Country.

Please be sure to sign Bernie Sanders PETITION found on the thread.

Romney is low life. He is supposed to be so religious. I doubt God would approve of his actions.

Kit B. (321)
Friday January 13, 2012, 4:07 pm

I don't really what religion any one is, that is not supposed to be considered when evaluating candidates. We have allowed far too much religion in politics and I can not see that it has brought us a better, safer or less corrupt country or world.

I have signed the Sanders petition and get his newsletter regularly on email, thanks Dandelion.

The trouble with "not following" politics is that, figuratively speaking, if you take your eye off the ball it will hit you between the eyes. We are in the predicament we are in today because too many people think it's boring or futile to follow the issues , speak out or vote.

I think given the circumstances, the President has performed as well as could be expected. With the degree of obstructionism from Republicans and even his own party to all the policy he has proposed, it's a miracle that anything at all was accomplished.

The simple fact is that this November Americans will essentially make a choice between Republican or Democrat. One could vote for an independent candidate, but it would be a symbolic vote. If a Repub, wins i guarantee things will be MUCH worse than with the current administration. Abstaining from voting would only help hand the election to the Repubs since they thrive on voter apathy.

While i think that finance reform is a commendable goal, i would caution against painting every candidate that accepts large sums of pac money or election funding with the same broad brush. Right now that is how the game is played and staying in the running requires money. We should IMO, at this time be focused on who will lead America after November. It's too late for any finance reform to affect the current election cycle anyway.

There i an old saying among pilots; "When flying an airplane, your first major goal is to fly the plane". I think our major goal, this year, is to elect a President that won't send America into a tailspin. Then we can push for improvements in the election process.

Romney did exactly what a businessman does to ensure that a company is profitable and the shareholders are taken care of. If the efficiency makes jobs disappear, this is the price of capitalism. Do not blame the man, blame the system. Should we also ask every CEO in America whose companies have lost jobs in this economy to resign? Almost every company would be leaderless. This article is picking a point that Romney's enemies use, a point that has nothing to do with whether he would make a good president.

Dandelion G. (357)
Saturday January 14, 2012, 12:13 pm
I recall a time when the owners of the Companies be they small or large did everything they could to keep a company up and running, to give workers jobs, to make products that were of quality, that kept a community thriving, where the CEO's and shareholders all made a profit and the workers paid living wages.

I don't want a cut-throat in the White House, I want someone who will consider from their Heart what is a new and better Vision for this Country, that takes into consideration that just because it can be done, vulture capitalism, doesn't mean it should be. When the bucket shops and vulture capitalism were allowed to run amuck and only profiting a few over the overall good of this entire Country, no I don't at all want someone in office who operates that way.

Besides, Romney has sided with every side of every issue who the heck knows what he stands for and what he believes......but one thing we do know that he does well is what he has proven himself to do with Bain. Good for the 1% or near the top, hardly good for anyone else.

Phil R. (31)
Saturday January 14, 2012, 12:58 pm
"Should we also ask every CEO in America whose companies have lost jobs in this economy to resign?"

Yeah, i'll go along with that idea. Sack the lot of them and replace them with people who have some concern for their fellow Americans.

Today NPR had someone on talking about how Romney stuck his dog in a kennel on top of his car when they went on an extended car trip. The dog evidently had a wet bowel movement, probably due to fear, and Romney's son saw the wet shit coming down the back window and hollered to his Dad, (Romney). Romney pulled over at a gas station, very unconcerned and evidently with no compassion, took a hose, hosed down the dog, and the car, and carried on along their trip.

I believe someone once said something to the effect that you can tell a person's character by the way they treat their pets. Need anyone say more?

Kit B. (321)
Saturday January 14, 2012, 4:19 pm

What a terrible story, Eddie. No doubt that poor dog was terrified and now Romney has taught his children[sons] the lesson of how to treat animals. Very sad.

Frankly, Kit I am Conservative, but switch if I see something better! Right now, NOTHING LOOKS GOOD TO ME! MITT might as well stay in the BallPark, cause he is NOT going to get ELECTED! In my humble opinion I really don't like him much!

Personally, in my opinon I believe certain people will not run for President because of all of the HATE we put lose on Politicans...Tons of GOOD people don't want to deal with it! Frankly, don't blame em! SO SAD...Robert Kennedy was ready to deal with it, want another ROBERT KENNEDY OR JFK PERSONALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! On your news when I want another RR I WILL GET KILLED, but he did good in my opinion! I will always adore HIM!

Wish someone could DROP OUT OF THE Neverland and RUN! I will work for that person if I believe in them, right now, the only person I believe in is Duncan Hunter here in San Diego, California! WISE, and sadly not running!

Jerry Brown RAN, and LOOK what we got HIM FOR A GOVERNOR!!!! HOW BAD IS THAT????????????????????Taxes raised and goodness this guy was in office before with his Dad! California wanted to get rid of ARNOLD, and we got a GIFT OF THE NEVER ENDING "BROWN" that always keeps coming back! FOOEY

I would love for him to lose all he has accumulated on the backs of the Backbone of America and have to look for work like the rest of us.For one thing, he could not be hired because he has not really worked in years, so he has NO experience. Mitt should stay in the race because that would be a win for Obama..Haha I can just see it ..
The US has become the laughing stock of the rest of the World..I read several papers onlune in different languages..I actually learn more about what is happening here in the US than the media is broadcasting here in the US.

Kit B. (321)
Saturday January 14, 2012, 6:37 pm

It does seem that Mitt is the perpetual motion of a candidate - he just keeps going. I suppose with the choices we have been given he's no worse and certainly no better the rest of the pack.

One thing is for sure, no matter who is elected the people will not be happy. We are Americans and we do like to complain. This time around, we have a lot to complain about - we also have a lot we could do, if decide to make our voice heard.

Then its up to us, WE the people to come together and make things right. We simply begin at the community level, organize, attend city/town council meetings and set aside our differences to begin to make change.

Eddie O. (95)

Hi Marilynn, - Respectfully I disagree as there truly is much that is right, and getting better. The unity that we're developing through OWS is awesome, and the major awareness that has come about in the recent months is incredibly valuable. We truly have to, as a nation, become aware of the problem before it can be fixed, and we're still in the highlighting stage. :-)

That being said, there actually is much progress being made. Just the fact that some States and Cities are standing up to Citizens United is incredible, and a wonderful beginning. More and more people are realizing how devastating this massive money in our elections is, and we're not going to back down till this corruption is changed.

It's really a wonderful time to live and be part of this historic movement that is going on. And, yes, it appears to be going very slowly, but it's a massive machine and can't be turned around on a dime. It will take time, but we truly are doing it.

And, I don't know if you've been keeping up with things lately, but Obama is attempting to do more and more things for the good of the country. Of course, much of this is being obstructed, but some is getting through and he finally seems to have gotten a backbone, obviously because he wants to get re-elected, but still it's great progress.

One of my favorite sayings is: "The darker the night, the closer the dawn". And, just think how much darker it has been for some other countries, prior to Arab Spring, and yet their dawn has and is appearing. Ours is too and it's going to be very positive in many ways.

So, don't give up, and trust that all good causes will produce good effects. Take care, Eddie

When stories like this surface, it's up to the other party to challenge the candidate for these offences. If the Democratic Party chooses not to, there are a couple of reasons: high level Democrats were also involved in the story, or other Democrats could be fingered in similar stories.
