Another Judge with his head up his..., well, not where it belongs. Actions like this are why about 60% of sexual assaults are never reported.

Many states would have tried criminals of this age group as adults. Still, appalling plea deals get made for the benefit of the criminals (minimizing sentences and even dropping serious charges) to save the state trial costs and give the Prosecutor a check in their WIN column. This is how the criminals get a "slap on the hand" in many cases.

I signed it, too, Kit. And, juvenile or not (they're practically 18...certainly not 12!) I don't understand this gag order.

It's very sad that these teenage boys raped a young woman, photographed the assault, and spread the photographs around for others to see --only to have the VICTIM warned that she could not publicly identify her attackers because they were minors! And because she DID identify them, and I don't blame her, she's facing jail time? This is so wrong! Shouldn't other young women be made aware that these young men are rapists? It seems to me that the young woman who was raped should have more rights than the rapists and other young women need to know the identity of the attackers so they can protect themselves from suffering the same fate.

To add insult to injury, the judge, the Honorable Deana "Dee" McDonald, is a woman!

Outlandish! Since when is it justice to protect the criminal? This girl is the victim and she should not be stopped from talking. The criminals names should have already been released. We need to do something to stop the women and girls in this country from becoming the lesser citizens. After all the Constitution says "Equal rights for all", not just for men.

It was okay for these rapists to post pictures of their assault, but not for their victim to express herself? The gag order as part of the plea deal was wrong. Thanks for posting the info about the petition, Olivia, and Kit for posting the original report!

The stupid gag order should be vacated and the girl should have the right to sue the lawyers sho came up with it as well as getting civil damages from along with criminal prosecution of the rapists. Multiple rape or rape with injury or death of a victim should earn them a bullet in their heads, not a 'slap on the wrist'. We don't need their kind in our nation, any more than these damn libtards that criminalise victims!

She identified them "after they were convicted. Now she's facing jail time for violating a gag order about the case"..That is INSANE! They are NOT "awaiting trial" or in ANY WAY presumed innocent - the CONVICTED Have NO Rights!!!! Sexual Predators are Required to report to police where they live & those locations & names are Routinely posted on websites..So why are these Criminals being coddled while their victim is threatened???

I have never believed that the American legal system offered justice. However, I believe that the gag order is standard when dealing with minors, it is in the UK. If the victim has broken the gag order for any reason, then it is regarded as contempt of court. tivalene equI also do not know if you have a sex offender's register and if the boys went on it or the equivalent.

The pre-trial discussion meant that money was saved because there was not a full trial and that the victim was spared having to give evidence and neither did anyone else.

Personally, I am disgusted that the victim, and her family, were not involved in any pre-trial discussion nor do I think justice was given. I think that the girl deserved better and certainly more consideration by the system. Unfortunately, the system is geared for the alleged perpetrators and their rights, not the victims, they have none. I hope that the trial will not punish the victim further and that common sense will rule.

The problem is that this is a legal system, not a justice system and the two must not be confused even though we hope that they run together.

I am so embarrassed and disgusted with our judicial system in this case. How they could even propose jail time for the victim. They need to remember. SHE IS THE VICTIM, NOT THE PERETRATOR. The case is over. It is just not right that she could face jail time. GET REAL PEOPLE.

Ditto on the above comments. No justice here for Savannah, and this young lady has to live with this for the rest of her life. It will be interesting to see what type of sentences these boys get next month. Thanks, Kit for this one.

gag me with a spoon order or publicizing their names, she has helped other girls that these #%# will try to date rape. You think women don't talk about their abortions....women do not talk about haveing been raped. It's about time things are out in the open.
I know women who having been raped by a cousin/uncle where told by their grandmothers to "invite so and so to their wedding, because he is family!!!" WTF!!!!
Molesters, rapists need to be outted!

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) A 17-year-old Kentucky girl who defied a court order by tweeting the names of two teenagers who pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting her won't face a contempt charge.

David Mejia (meh-HEE'-yah), an attorney for one of the accused boys, says the motion to hold 17-year-old Savannah Dietrich of Louisville in contempt was withdrawn Monday.

Mejia says the decision had nothing to do with public sentiment in the case, although an online petition campaign had garnered more than 62,000 signatures. He said there's no need for the motion now that Dietrich spread word about the case over the Internet.

Dietrich told The Courier-Journal she tweeted the names out of frustration with what she feels was a lenient deal for her attackers.

Thanx Gillian. I think they put their tails between their legs. Well, the "boys" need more than exposure and a slap on the wrist. Some hard time may give them a taste of their own meds.

I don't blame her. If the criminals got away with humiliating her after violating her it is only fair they are exposed. The little bastards don't deserve to right to be able to hide behind the cloaks of a bad judge.

although the girl made a mistake by not being in control of herself, it did not give the degenerates the right to attack her. ths system is wrong by protecting juveniles in this manner--their actions should be made public records--this trash will just grow up more arrogant and less regard for the law. treated as any other crimiinal should also solve crimes more quickly--no sealed records.times are different and sensless crimes seem more prevalent.

Noted. Much thanks, Kit. Well, I went ahead and signed, too, even though I guess it's been dropped. Lawyers being lawyers, it can't hurt. I agree 100% that these boys need to learn their actions have consequences--a slap on the wrist is too easily forgotten. Public knowledge of their names will at least alert other girls about what they've done.

Signed the petition - thanks Olivia and Kit! Firstly 'don't do the crime if you can't do the time' - they should have been locked up for the next 20 years or more! Citizens - vote out this DA who agreed to such a rape-promoting plea bargain and get rid of this disgusting Judge Dee McDonald!! Faugh!

''SIGNED''...thanks Kit....this is so wrong. These boys sexually assault this girl and she faces jail time. What is wrong with this picture? She is the victim and they are being protected. Her freedom of speech is being taking away. These boys assault her and then post pictures of the assault and she is not allowed to tell anybody there names. what is wrong with this picture? I don't care if they are juveniles or not, this was a crime and they should be punished, not her. There pictures and names should be plastered up everywhere, so that the public will know what kind of people the really are. They committed a crime and they should be thrown in jail, not just give them a spanking and tell them not to do this again. ''JUSTICE FOR SAVANNAH DIETRICH''!!!!

Rapists seem to get away with anything these days like in the Muslim world, the victims get punished and the culprits are the heroes in the face of the law. I am sick of hearing this all the time, is western law now controlled by imams or sharia law? No wonder crime is on the increase with lawyers so corrupt and heartless for profit, not justice! These bastards should feel the full force of the law and end up in prison with hardened long term prisoners, yeah and get raped to teach them a lesson. Sure, the girl passed out drinking, maybe those jerks even got her drunk to take advantage of her, who knows. But if they were friends they would have protected her. And the worst part is, they took pictures and posted them on the internet. That alone shows the evil in this crime, sick. They should be castrated and have their little peckers chopped off. This should happen to any rapist anywere and we might just see respect. On the other end, especially young girls are too revealing and leave nothing to the imagination and that makes them a target. Also alcohol plays a big part in this.

Sharon B. If the young "men" were told that rape is wrong, then what THEY did was WRONG. And THEN they took pictures. And THEN they PUBLISHED them, on the INTERNET! And THEN they plea bargained, leaving her out. And THEN she was GAGGED. There is "wrong" and there is WRONG!!
Anyhow, slavery used to be "right", 'member? And those who spoke up against it were " troublemakers" Well, SAVANNAH DIETRICH is a HEROINE. GOOD for HER! She has PROTECTED an unknown # of girls from being raped in the future. Maybe a girl related to you, or Deana McDonald or David Mejia
