A new advertising campaign from three major unions is targeting key congresspeople with a clear message: the way to reduce the deficit is by “creating jobs and growing our economy” not by “cutting programs that families rely on most.”

The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and the National Education Association (NEA) effort is the first major salvo that expands the debate, forcing a debate over whether we need jobs or cuts, instead of a cramped discussion over whose cuts are better.

The language is actually in sync with President Obama’s. He led off his Nov. 8 remarks by saying:

… at a time when our economy’s still recovering from the great recession, our top priority has to be jobs and growth. That’s the focus of the plan that I talked about during the campaign…

…If we’re serious about reducing the deficit, we have to combine spending cuts with revenue. And that means asking the wealthiest Americans to pay a little more in taxes…

…That’s the only way we can still afford to train our workers, or help our kids pay for college, or make sure that good jobs and clean energy or high tech manufacturing don’t end up in countries like China.

Now, already I’ve put forward a detailed plan, that allows us to make these investments while reducing our deficit by $4 trillion over the next decade.

That plan which Obama talked about the campaign was the American Jobs Act, investing more than $400 billion to create jobs in infrastructure and education.

We can spend that up front and still meet long-term deficit reduction targets, so long as we also raise taxes on the wealthy, cut wasteful military spending and — without needlessly cutting benefits — responsibly control health care costs.

The President’s emphasis on jobs and growth hasn’t received much media attention yet. With this new ad campaign, that may change.

Bringing about 'taxes/ fees ' for Corportes who outsource jobs would also help. Manufacturing ones sure..but even more so the millions that fall under the 'white collar' job market...office employees etc. Not all have the skills or physically ability to work labor intense jobs so the outsourced 'office' type need to be returned a.s.a.p. or funds paid by those Corporates who sent the jobs overseas can pay for the unemployment needs of those who once held those jobs...in my opinion. They sure as hell better get back to our infrastructure or we as a nation are going to see some really unpleasant roads..bridges...water ways etc. in the all to near future...all via the GOP obstuctionist in Congress who are already campaigning for the 2014 election ...problem for their mindset is that it's their jobs that are in reality on the line for them this time...not Obamas. People are feed up with their stalling of our recovery/jobs etc. for their political games and there is the problem for the GOP this round who better wake up real fricken fast to that fact or be ready to stand in unemployment lines they created over the past 12 years at min.

Recovery is always slow, but with jobs still being outsourced and so many in need of work, there is great need for those who are out sourcing to "pay up, or bring it home". Corporations that hire here, give them a tax break and those who out source or avoid taxes with off shore accounts, lose their corporate license, some one, or best, many others will pick up and re-start.

Obama likes to outsource. He sent $2 billion of taxpayer money to drill offshore in Brazil. He knows how to create jobs for Brazil and China.

But, the liberals aren't interested in Obama's outsourcing. All of Obama's tax funded green companies, some sending work overseas for the solar panels....all bankrupt. That was your $860 billion stimulus funding that massive misuse of taxpayer money.

Raise taxes? Kill jobs in America. Haven't you noticed that large corporations stopped spending by not hiring and growing their companies over the past four years? Haven't you noticed that companies are now laying people off or reducing their full time status to part time status due to ObamaCare?

Obama is a job killer. And he uses our tax money to kill jobs. If Obama can outsource then why is it bad for American businesses to out source? If I were a business owner today and put out bids to produce a certain product and the unions gave me a bid of $100.00 an hour and China gave me a bid of $15.00 an hour which one would I go with to make a profit, hire more employees and grow my company? It's simple math.

Remember 2010 when Republicans who had filibustered every one of the 44 jobs creation bills the Pelosi house passed ran on "where are the jobs"? We knew the answer, in Asia where you had given tax breaks to help your donors send them. How many jobs bills did they put forward? Oh yeah, one, this year, and all it actually consisted of was more tax breaks for the obscenely wealthy who had already sent 50,000 factories full of jobs to Asia.

Let's not forget that Obama created jobs for China and Brazil when he pledged our taxpayer dollars to fund drilling there. So, we know he knows how to create jobs. But the question is can he create jobs in our own country? Again, time will tell but don't hold your breath. The best predictor of future behavior is past behavior. Obama keeps wanting to go "green" and everything green he created went belly up at the taxpayer's expense. Massive waste of taxpayer dollars that could go to fund the "poor" in our country, don't you think? What's your answer to that?

The American Jobs Act put forth by the Pres. should've been done some time ago, but the GOP media has been attacking him and changing the conversation. We should all get behind this and let our Congress critters know it has our full support. You can also logon to WhiteHouse.gov and tell the Pres. you support his plan. Since winning the election, Obama has a lot of capital to spend, and Progressives need to "get out in front." Also, we who support a new "green" economy should let him know that as well. Let's make a commitment to get America off dirty energy.....the sooner the better!

This is all about UNION jobs in America. The unions have forced companies to take their production overseas because of the high hourly wages the union charges. If I had a business and needed something in production I'd get two bids....one from union workers and one from China. The unions would charge me $45.00 an hour and the Chinese would charge me $10.00 an hour. As a business person responsible for providing jobs for the community, I'd go overseas in a heartbeat to realize the profit I needed to keep my employees working and to provide benefits for them.

A case in point is the company I work for. We've grown this year and explored breaking through a wall to gain four more offices. The building owner gave us a build out cost. Our plan was to move forward with the project in four months. Two months after we received our initial bid, a union company bought our building. We received a letter that the build out costs had now more than quadrupled doing the same work. This little example tells you all you need to know about why unions are passe in America. We no longer need them and many companies aren't willing to pay their higher cost of doing business. Well, now back to my office....our CEO said, "No deal." So, what will we do now that we need larger office space? You've got it...we'll move to a non union building and give them the three year commitment to rent from them.

This is how it works in America. So, who do you blame?

Unions are no longer necessary in the work place. There was a time when they were important but not anymore. Have you noticed the number of jobs that have gone overseas? It's because of the union. OSHA regulates safety in the work place now. Unions are passe. Get rid of the unions and companies will bring their production back to America.

It's the underfunded government union pensions that are a looming problem in some states.

Some government programs are very good, some are redundant or non applicable to life in 2012, some lack the resources to be in any way effective to their given mission. The term "government" program may be handy for use as a "put down" to liberals, at least in your mind. It takes real knowledge and not just repeats of rhetoric for your comments to have meaning or any influence.

Indeed, it takes real knowledge to understand what is happening to our country today, Kit. If you take the term "government programs" as a put down that is on you. Some programs do good work but most do not. $60 billion a year in fraud and abuse, Kit. What's your answer to that? It would suggest to me that the government should not be managing our healthcare programs because they have done a very poor job and the taxpayers have to fund that atrocity every year. But, you are okay with that, right?

My comments are every bit as important as you believe yours are, Kit.

Roseann, our salaries aren't any of your business. Just know that we are NOT union and we are doing just fine without them. I gave you the example of how unions overcharge. Do you think American business owners are stupid? Of course they aren't. Every business is open to make a profit. Otherwise, why would they endure the aggravation?

We are now a country where the majority of Americans believe the government owes them something and that the government needs to give "them stuff." It's the beginning of the socialist mentalities who honestly believe that the government knows what's best for them. Government should be small and not dictating to us how we should live. They work for US. We don't work for them. We send in our tax dollars throughout the year and settle up on April 15th. This administration are like drunken sailors (sorry Navy) who are sitting in a room full of dollars that don't belong to them spending it on ear marks, green companies and still able to get two credit downgrades. America is going downhill and as long as the democrats are in control, we'll see a steady decline in our lifestyles. Spreading the wealth doesn't work. One day you run out of rich people. Then....where do you turn? Why don't you ask Greece and France? Where do you turn when you raise taxes on the rich to 75%? The rich move to another country taking the jobs with them. I call this shooting yourself in both feet. Greece and France need to hit rock bottom. They earned it.

I give volunteer time each week and can tell you without a second question in my mind that none of the people living in tents, or hoping for some food for themselves or their children believe that anyone "owes" them anything. They are extremely grateful for the food or blankets given by others, they are grateful for the clothing and showers that allow them to look for jobs. They ask for nothing from you.

Try an inoculation of empathy, it just might help clear your mind of thinking that your fellow human beings are less than you.

I also do volunteer work, Kit. I know there are people in need. They are in need for different reasons. I believe you know what I'm talking about. Of course people are extremely grateful for what others can do for them. I believe in giving to the needy and when people have founds themselves unable to take care of their own needs. Why don't you try an inoculation that you aren't the only one who reaches out to others? We can't save the world or our country. All we can do is what we can do as time and money permits.

We waste $60 billion a year in fraud and abuse. Obama can't fix it. Imagine if Obama took the time to fix that $60 billion a year problem. We could be helping those living in tents and sleeping on benches. But, I know you don't want to criticize Barack Obama....
