Tell Defense Attorney That 11-Year Olds Are Never Willing Participants in Sex

Target: Defense Attorney Steve Taylor

Goal: Make him understand that sex involving a minor is always considered rape.

For almost half a year, Cleveland, Texas resident Jared Len Cruse, along with 20 of his friends, repeatedly raped an 11-year old girl. Mr. Cruse’s defense attorney, Steve Taylor, argued in court that it wasn’t rape because the girl said she had been a “willing participant.” Not only did he make this shocking accusation, but he went on to say the girl was like a spider, luring the men seductively into her parlor. What Steve Taylor doesn’t understand is, no matter what the 11-year old said, rape is always rape when a minor is involved. The girl was not of age, and therefore could not be a consenting adult.

Luckily, there are some sane people involved in the case. The lead investigator, Sergeant Chad Langdon, testified before the court that an 11-year old can never legally consent to sex. Despite Mr. Taylor’s career involving the law, he apparently doesn’t understand this. In addition, another man charged with raping the same girl has already been sentenced to 99 years in prison. So far, it appears Mr. Taylor’s comments won’t do much to sway the jury, and may ultimately end up working against him and his client.

The level of violence committed in the world is shocking, and no more than when children are involved. Please, tell Steve Taylor that his remarks are disgusting and unacceptable. If his reasoning were law, rapists and pedophiles would be able to get away with far more of their crimes. This is a serious matter, and if dialogue like the kind Mr. Taylor used doesn’t go away, children will never be fully protected.

Maybe he trained in the military where until recently it wasn't defined as rape if age 12 or more...but NDAA increased that to 16 not long ago (maybe with NDAA in 2011).

OMG! The Lawyer needs to be prosecuted as pimp - what kind of backwoods dumba$$ would believe any one who's Underage CAN consent? It's statutory rape Even If the child "consents"! In Illinois the person has to be 18 (though usually if they're 16 or older they can choose to not prosecute)..maybe Texas treats kids as adults because the adults are so childishly stunted mentally??? Sorry, Kit, but why in the hell are you in Texas???? Sorry, I just can't stomach Texas..though I shouldn't say anything because I'm afraid half the people in Texas were run out of Illinois at some point..;) I guess we're to blame for Utah too...

Signed and noted! Twenty-one adult males really thought it was okay to have sexual relations with a minor (rape, to be exact)? Sorry, they'd have to find a jury of moon shine-swilling, mouth-breathing, hill dwellers who all share the same last name to buy that story in a court of law. I hope they all rot in prison and this little girl gets the help she needs.

How ignorant - this kind of 'defense' should result in some kind of punishment from this lawyers legal association/bar? and some reprimand from the court. How is this 11 year old child going to feel when she hears this? she is already going to suffer from this for the rest of her life.

Thanks. Perhaps this attorney was absent the day they taught law at law school. If he'd been there, he might have learned concepts like consent, the ability to form consent, and statutory rape (as well as forcible rape).

This person (Steve Taylor) was hired to get his client freed, no matter the cost to the child involved. Some attorney's have proven themselves to be less than reputable, this one seem to working for an award for that label.

Your signature has been recorded. What little girl of 11 wants 21 grown men all over her. That is their trying to get out of having committed a crime. This poor child is damaged for the rest of her life. They may as well killed her, for she will never ever be the same.

Her self esteem has been destroyed, her childhood robbed from her, she might have disease, she may be physically injured to the point she may not be able to become a Mother, she may never be able to have a normal relationship with a man in future.

They did a crime now they need to do the time.

After much consideration, I have come up with ONE bizarre set of circumstances in which a girl who has celebrated no more than 11 birthdays might be able to give legal consent to sex. That would be if she was born on February 29 so that she would actually have lived for 44 years. Outside of that, forget it.

Willing participant? Are you pulling my chain or what? No CHILD of 11 is going to be a willing participant. My husband's always said that I should have been a hanging judge and in this case that's what I would have done. that's why I didn't become a lawyer because I could never represent such ilk.
There should also be a civil trial to sue each of these individuals to pay for this child's on going counseling.

Let's hope this idiot lawyer doesn't have any children. If he does, hope his wife leaves him ASAP and gets a huge alimony/child support ruling. Don't let your kids near this jerk...he sees his client as "innocent", what is going on in his mind when he sees 11 year old girls himself?

This kind of nonsense perpetuates the now out of date thinking that everything related to "sin" in sex is due to women. This began with the story of Adam and Eve and has been an excuse for making women responsible ever since. Women are not capable of making men pregnant virtually every day in a calendar year. Women can be pregnant to term only once every 8 or 9 months. The problem then is not with women. It is clearly with men who deny their adult responsibility to either keep their penises in their pants, get a vasectomy or use a condom. Men have half the recipe for a child which makes any child, wanted or not, half theirs. Calling a woman a slut or calling the sex a one night stand is not a valid excuse. If the sperm is theirs, the child is half theirs. Period.

I know many have condemned the Lawyer, but we all have the right to legal representation. Many Lawyers have to represent the low lifes, murderers, and most likely don't like the crime nor may even detest the individual who did the crime, but we have a rule of law, and they fulfill this part within it. The Lawyer did not commit the crime, but he or she is obligated to give the person their day in court.

S&N. "What Steve Taylor doesn’t understand is, no matter what the 11-year old said, rape is always rape when a minor is involved. The girl was not of age, and therefore could not be a consenting adult."

I find it absolutely incredible that an attorney, one who actually attended a law school, does NOT know that children cannot consent to virtually ANY adult act, not contracts, not marriage, not bank accounts, and certainly not sex. Statutory rape means there is a STATUTE that prohibits it. This bleeping idiot ought be disbarred for even offering up such a pathetic defense. It is bad enough that the verdict could be overturned for lack of adequate counsel. Maybe that is his plan. Guys like this, and this attorney, I'd be happy to dump into a polar bear enclosure and let them see how well they get along with other beasts of the earth. Prison is too good for scum like this. I'm not a violent man, I don't support the death penalty, but when it comes to crimes against children, against humanity, well, even I can make an exception once in a while. Take them off the playing field permanently. They don't deserve to breath the same air decent people do. Ick, just ick!
