This could be our best opportunity to rein in Pentagon spending. We simply have to stop paying for the things we don't need so that we can afford the things we do - like Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security.

The deadline for $1.2 trillion in automatic spending cuts is fast approaching, and Congress is working to make a deal.

This could be our best opportunity to rein in Pentagon spending. We simply have to stop paying for the things we don't need so that we can afford the things we do - like Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security.

Lobbyists representing fat cat Pentagon contractors are already circling the halls of Congress to ensure they get the best deal. Now its time Congress heard from the People too.

Join USAction and SumOfUs as we call on Congress to cut wasteful Pentagon spending, not Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security.

Your letter: (to your House representative and your Senators)

As Congress gears up to make a deal on $1 trillion in automatic spending cuts, it is essential that programs like Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid are not cut to pay for more wasteful Pentagon spending.

With the Pentagon budget representing more than half of all discretionary spending, it is unconscionable that Congress would balance the budget on the backs of our most vulnerable, while Pentagon contractor CEOs make upwards of $26 million a year.

It's time Congress listened to the American people they were elected to represent, not fat cat Pentagon contractors and their lobbyists. Do the right thing. Rein in wasteful Pentagon spending. Don't cut Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid benefits.

Please sign and share - let your voice be heard.

Haliburton, Blackwater=Xe=Academi, [et al] amassing and hoarding fortunes of grandeur and exerting enormous influence on political and governmental bodies at the grave expense of taxpayers, civilization and the entire biosphere. . .are exactly what Eisenhower and every other wise person who articulated their cautions on the "military-industrial complex". . .warned against. . .

"But each proposal must be weighed in light of a broader consideration; the need to maintain balance in and among national programs balance between the private and the public economy, balance between the cost and hoped for advantages balance between the clearly necessary and the comfortably desirable; balance between our essential requirements as a nation and the duties imposed by the nation upon the individual; balance between the actions of the moment and the national welfare of the future. Good judgment seeks balance and progress; lack of it eventually finds imbalance and frustration..."

Signed, thanks Kit. I remember reading/hearing well over 20 years ago (when I lived down in the "kill zone") that an ashtray for AF One cost over $500! I imagine it would cost a lot more today.

I know that everyone by now is aware of the the excessive spending by the military/Pentagon. I think a tighter budget would cause them to be forced to make more thoughtful and considered decisions on their budget is used.

Thank you all for signing - please do share so we can add signatures, and make this an even more powerful statement.

Signed, with this comment: "And quite frankly, I don't think it's proper for these crooks to use my tax dollars to lobby Congress . . . to get MORE of my tax dollars. You're worried about the EPA and pesticides, Mr. Johanns? THIS is more costly than the regulations your lame-ass bill attempts to stop! As for the regulation you're objecting to--people will be dying from those pesticides; fish and wildlife, not to mention the bees are getting killed off because of Big Ag's over-dependence on Big Chemical."

Yes, I threw in that bit about the EPA and pesticides, just because I got his e-Update today--he's introduced a bill "with my colleague Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) which would eliminate a burdensome, costly and redundant Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) permit requirement for applications of pesticides. "

Oops, maybe I should have taken out the "lame-ass"! Oh, well, he's a big boy, he can take it.

How much more wealthy did Dick Cheney become after hiring Halliburton, to _assist_ with the war effort?
