Over 40,000 ACLU supporters have already signed their names opposing CISPA and the far-reaching consequences it would have for our personal online privacy. Help us get to 50,000 petition signatures before Congress finalizes CISPA next week and brings it to a vote after Tax Day (April 15). If we reach our goal, we’ll run a full-page advertisement in Politico, aimed at Capitol Hill, asking President Obama and other key decision-makers to “kill the bill.”

The Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act, or CISPA, is a proposed law that would give companies unprecedented power to hand your personal information from the internet, including from private communications, over to government agencies without a warrant.

When CISPA first showed up last year, we successfully defeated it—so we need to remind President Obama about this dangerous threat to our personal privacy, and ask him to tell Congress he intends to veto CISPA once more.

S & N, I don't understand why we should even be in this position to have to defend our privacy about anything. Get the snoopy ones out of Congress.

Signed. I've also signed petitions on this matter from Daily Kos,, Daily Kos and Demand Progress. That's right--I signed Daily Kos' TWICE! Sue me!

I'm still ticked off about Congress' passing a law allowing telemarketers to call our cell phones and waste our minutes, even though I didn't have a cell phone then but I still knew it was a bad idea, and I hadn't even THOUGHT about text message scams (Target, anyone?) This is just more of the same: Big Business wants it, so they pull the strings and their little puppets in Congress dance. Although I'm willing to bet that these Congressional dipshits don't THINK of themselves as puppets, but rather the puppet masters, and would be totally outraged at the mere suggestion of their puppetude . . . I think I was going somewhere with this, but I've forgotten where. Sorry, I seem to be rambling. Hope nobody was following, I ran out of breadcrumbs half an hour ago. The important thing is, I signed.

Wasn't sure if I signed before, either, but they took my signature. Have been signing many of these over the past several months, as Congress wishes to continue pushing this. I just hope they don't sneak it in as a last minute amendment like the Monsanto protection was done. Thanks so much for posting, Kit!

The Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act, or CISPA must not be passed. The internet must be remain free. Iran, China, N.Korea, Russia control their country's internet information. We must not let that happen in this country. There is proof that on line voting control on a small scale was successful in the last election in Florida (I think) where over 2,000 absentee ballots were requested on line from people who said when asked they did not request the ballots. There is confusion within the state's officials who wondered what was the point. I humbly suggest the point was to see if it could be done successfully and it was on a small scale. The government having control over Internet communications and content would reduce our rights to those in CHINA and we must not allow it. Thanks Kit for the information.
