This is not magic - this is using the distortion of young women's body image and insecurity as a source of profit. There are a variety of things teenage girls "want to be" -- safe, respected, encouraged, valued, to name a few.

Please TAKE ACTION!

Women are created in the image of God, yet our culture constantly seeks to devalue them to nothing more than a body. Young women struggle with body image and feelings of inadequacy, unaware of the beauty they carry. Marketing campaigns that objectify women deny their value, sending the message that their worth is found in their sexual appeal. The results are well known: eating disorders, anxiety, fear, and a surrounding culture of rape and abuse.

Victoria’s Secret consistently and blatently markets their lingerie to teen girls. The “Bright Young Things” marketing campaign for the PINK line they ran earlier this year is an egregious example, with young models in racy lingerie. Stuart Burgdoerfer, CFO of Limited Brands, which owns Victoria’s Secret, recently said of young girls, “They want to be older, and they want to be cool like the girl in college, and that’s part of the magic of what we do at Pink.”

This is not magic – this is using the distortion of young women’s body image and insecurity as a source of profit. There are a variety of things teenage girls “want to be” — safe, respected, encouraged, valued, to name a few.

Let Victoria’s Secret and Limited Brands know that this marketing strategy is unacceptable by sending a message to their communications team and board of directors. Tell Limited Brands and Victoria’s Secret their value of making money is not worth exploiting the sacred value of women and girls.

Please sign!

Thank you Cher ~

Signed. Thanks for posting this Kit, because this issue is a huge problem that needs to be addressed in any way possible. This kind of marketing just should not be allowed, because it's really bordering on sexual abuse of children.

Girls are pressured into growing up too soon these days. It's like they jump straight from childhood to adulthood! And yes, there is a sexualization of young girls that is wholly inappropiate and 'unhealthy'.

Signed & Noted We have to allow children (boys as well as girls) to get somewhat older before exposing them to extreme sexual behavior and seduction.

If there is ANYTHING Victoria does not have it is a secret. Their incessant commercials devalue girls in ways they don't seem capable of understanding. They DO objectify women, reduce them to their body and nothing else. There is no "achievement" in those commercials, just sexuality and that debases young women as well as the rest of us.

Absolutely signed. Noted. Many, many thanks for this one, Kit, as I have young granddaughters who are already affected by the sexualized media. I'm here to tell them that their brains are the most beautiful part of their body, along with their hearts. Superficial materialism is the mantra today, because greed is god. It seems like an unwinnable war we're fighting, especially when major networks program junk like Victoria's Secret models and beauty pageants. Fortunately, many parents carefully monitor what their kids watch.
