Thanks Pam for sending this to me and reminding why I must check out Upworthy daily. I only wish we had someone in Washington DC with this honesty, passion and ability to deal with issues whose time has come.

I want to HUG this man......I want to rub noses with this man......I want to buy this man a drink!

The sheer joy of New Zealand's response to the legislation brought tears to my eyes.

I do agree Pam, meanwhile in DC our elected representatives are still sure that gay marriage will lead to bestially. Nothing like being caught in 1,000 year time warp.

My brother shared this on FB - he's one whose opinions have evolved over the years! This guy is so funny - and does NZ proud indeed! A genius speech - ending with a quote from the old book at the end - that should get'em! Thanks for the share - certainly worth a second view!

that was a cute and simple way of explaining that gays will not change the universe in any way if they marry they just want to live like everyone else

I just wish each of our 535 members of Congress had to watch this and then be forced to defend their own homophobic attitudes.

amazing how we can be soooo gung ho to be first in space, first in the Olympics and yet are dragging our heels waaaay far behind other countries when it comes to gay rights.

The United States has a history of being notoriously behind other countries in recognizing human rights of any kind.

Thanks Kit, really great! "The gay onslaught," LOL.

Louis CK's take (you can find it on youtube) might be a bit funnier but this is more relevant. Can't the NZ Parliament replace our politicians? We'll even still pay you guys and you'll be on permanent vacation.

I loved this speech, the gay onslaught and the big gay rainbow had me laughing, but what brought tears to my eyes was when after the vote they all started singing. The gallery, the politicians stood as one and sang so joyously, so spontaneously and it was beautiful.
My daughter is gay and her brother lives in NZ, we live in Australia, and he and his wife have invited his sister and her fiancee to NZ to get married.
I know that eventually Australia will legalize gay marriage, it's just a matter of time, but will they do it as awesomely as they did in New Zealand? I doubt it.
Kudos NZ, I lived there once and got a taste of how wonderful the country is. Thank you for once again being the country that is brave and caring.
As the parent of a gay child, thank you.

I think with all the hate in the world, who cares who loves who? There is not enough love in the world,we desperately neee more love. I mean who are we to dictate who loves who?

Thank you so much for sharing this Kit ~ wow, I wish we had more passionate and fearless reps like this man. He's amazing and wonderful and right ~ 2 people who love each other should be able to get married and have that love recognized. Kudos!

Maurice Williamson was simply brilliant in his speech. I wonder if we could invite the New Zealand Parliament to Washington to show the Congress how civilized debate and action is taken? I am under no illusion that the NZ Parliament is like this always, but . . .

"All we are doing with this bill is allowing two people who love each other to have that love recognised by way of marriage. That is all we are doing."

I have watched this video several times (maybe 5) and I laugh each time. Williamson gets his points across with humour. And if you go to the following Causes link, there are several videos, this one included. I just loved the Maori love song! The gallery started singing this song spontaneously and most of the parliamentarians joined in.

AWESOME New Zealand. Totally AWESOME!!!!!

"With this, New Zealand joins the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Canada, South Africa, Norway, Sweden, Portugal, Iceland, Argentina and Denmark in enshrining marriage equality in law. Lawmakers in Uruguay approved a bill last week which will be signed into law shortly."

@ Kit --- "...elected representatives are still sure that gay marriage will lead to bestially. " --- Let's not forget pedophilia either. I'm with Maurice Williamson and New Zealand.

An example of a civilized, adult politician. I wish I could send this clip to my Senators, Congressmen, etc.
