At least three dead in shooting in suburb outside Baltimore.

A shooting at a mall in Maryland on Saturday ended in the deaths of at least three people, including the suspected shooter, Howard County police said.

Authorities have not released the identities of any of the dead. There are no reports yet of additional people injured.

People who were in the mall were set to be transported from the shopping center by school bus Saturday afternoon, although authorities were telling mall goers to "shelter in place" until help could arrive, according to a police scanner.

The police department tweeted that they believe there is no longer any threat.

"Police are in mall to clear people out safely. Mall is believed to be secure, but people inside should wait for police," Howard County Police tweeted.

Howard County police said earlier Saturday morning via Twitter that a shooting had taken place at the mall in Columbia.

Columbia is a suburb of both Baltimore and Washington, and the mall typically opens at 10 a.m. on Saturdays.

The Howard County Fire and emergency services department sent out at tweet at 11:25 a.m. Saturday, saying that police and rescuers were responding to "an active shooter" at the mall.

The mall typically opens at 10 a.m. on Saturdays. It was not known how many shoppers or workers might have been at the scene.

The mall is at the center of the town, near The Merriweather Post Pavillion, a concert venue.

Saturday's shooting follows a string of gun incidents in recent days, including shootings at South Carolina State University, where a student was left dead, and Purdue University, in Indiana, where a student was also left dead.

Authorities do not know the motive for the shooting at the Maryland mall.

And everyone else sits there, going "ho hum.... another shooting... I wonder what's on tv tonight?" Makes me want to scream, too. Hello??? Is anybody paying attention? Does anybody care? How much longer will we not enforce the puny gun laws we have? Will we ever make any new ones? At this rate, everyone had best keep their affairs in order because we just never know where the next shooting will be...

It took 2 years after a mall event in my vicinity before things got back to normal there. We must not just get used to it but keep asking our leaders to act to change the trend.

I've become very cynical when it comes to Americans and their love of gun slaughter - and yes - it's come to the point where I argue and argue with the gun lovers of America to no avail, but now I do let them enjoy their amusing slots of time on TV when they cover their mass shootings 24/7 - I continue to sign petitions, call representatives, write nasty letters, but our country is run by money and one of the biggest businesses is our domestic terrorist organization - the NRA and affiliates - they own a lot of Congress and don't care what blood is left in their wake - nor do their prostitutes in Congress - I'm tired! I'll look up what is lighter on TV - to escape the nuke in my head that drives me utterly insane with anger!

You wonder if these shootings will ever stop, although guns are not allowed here and our police don't carry guns shootings still happen here and it's always the innocent that get up in such horrors. Thanks Kit.

And this recent shooting has been brought to you by your friendly NRA and crazed 2nd amendment bought politicians. I've never owned a gun, don't have a desire to own one and guess what?..... I don't feel like my 2nd amendment rights have been taken away or are in any danger. And I'M STILL ALIVE!!!! Responsibility for EVERY GUN MURDER is to be laid at the feet of the NRA and it's idiot politicians who do NOTHING to stop the senseless slaughter of innocent people.

Update on Shooting at Maryland Mall: (30 minutes ago)

http://m.aljazeera.com/story/2014125173650709506

[....] "We had officers quickly get into the area and we were able to identify three victims at an upper level store in the Columbia Mall, one of those victims appears to be the shooter," Howard County Police Chief Bill McMahon told reporters.

"We are very confident that it was a single shooter and there are no other shooters in the mall," he said.

Five people were injured during the shooting, but only one suffered a gunshot wound, according to a spokeswoman at Howard County General Hospital, where the victims were taken for treatment.

All the victims were in good condition, spokeswoman Susan Case said.

Police said one of the victims had a gunshot wound to the foot. The suspected shooter was found near a shotgun and ammunition, it said.

Call your Senators and House Representatives, call all of you state representatives and governors. The answer is not glib statement about good guys and guns. This is a major public safety issue, we must react in a thoughtful and appropriate manner.
