The government of this country has armed and sanctioned a brutal gang which imposes its authority whenever it feels like it, whether given the slightest excuse or not

A man was shown apparently being shot twice with a Taser gun by police in Nottingham in a mobile phone video taken by a bystander and posted on YouTube yesterday.

The footage has prompted calls from human rights groups for the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) to investigate the incident and review the use of Taser guns by police.

The video appears to show four officers converging on a man outside the city's Theatre Royal in an attempt to arrest him. When he resists, one of them tells the others to stand back and fires a Taser at him as he lies on the pavement. As the man continues to resist arrest, one of the officers punches the man in the head repeatedly.

Bystanders gather round and a policeman fires the Taser again at the man on the floor, while shouting: "Taser, Taser, Taser." The Taser gun consists of two darts on the end of wires containing a 50,000 volt electric shock.

The video was given to local radio station Trent FM and posted on YouTube, prompting more than 300 views and 100 comments within the first four hours.

Nottinghamshire police told the Press Association that officers were trying to arrest the 40-year-old man after they were called out by door staff at one of the city's nightspots; he was later charged on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

Assistant Chief Constable Peter Davies said: "We understand that some members of the public may be concerned about this ... which is why we have referred this matter for an objective investigation to the IPCC."

Welcome to the police state....and that policeyobo should be sacked and prosecuted for assault...Punching someone in the head when he's already on the ground..totally unnecessary and not what they are paid for...although this man is most likely drunk the violence reminds me of the G20 demo in London...for those who may not know....they were caught on camera there too where they killed an innocent bystander by throwing him on the ground...he had a heart attack...

Watch the video:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8004222.stm

A policeman has been interviewed under caution on suspicion of manslaughter after new tests overturned the cause of a newspaper-seller's death.

Ian Tomlinson, 47, was struck and pushed over by a police officer during G20 protests on 1 April in the City.

Now a fresh post-mortem examination has found he died of abdominal bleeding, not a heart attack, as first thought.

Lawyers for the family said the new post-mortem test raised the likelihood of a manslaughter charge.

In its statement, the Coroner's Court said the inquest had looked at the first post-mortem examination carried out after Mr Tomlinson collapsed and died on the evening of 1 April.

That examination, carried out by Dr Freddy Patel, concluded Mr Tomlinson had diseased heart and liver and a substantial amount of blood in the abdominal cavity.

Mounties in Canada were not stopped from using taser, but had to return over 500 units because of faulty electrical output.

Tasering needs to end everywhere. This angers and disgusts me. Thanks Joanna.

Well, it's a "popular Police toy" in the US and Canada. The first reported overuse resulting in death was in those two countries. Stop all this finger-pointing, it's not going to help anyone. Why the provocative headline "Police Bastards"? I hate all this name-calling, it's so destructive. Think of constructive ways to get lawmakers in all countries to re-think the use of this weapon. (I'm against all forms of weapons)

Marena, have you ever been at the receiving end of police brutality? I have. When in rage, it is easy to call anyone who hurts anyone a 'Bastard'. The animal activists in the UK have been at the receiving end of police brutality for quite a while now. Care2 is flooded with comments like 'bastard' on most of the animal abuse threads. And I personally cannot think of a better word for someone who harms with deliberate intent.

Joanna, I understand your rage, and Marena, I understand your aversion to provacative headlines. Sometimes though, it is only because of a provacative headline that the rot can be seen by the world, and stopped by the world. Take the anti-sealing campaigns - they worked, did they not?

I for one would have been extremely grateful for a provacative headline while being held by the South African Bureau of State Security in the ex Apartheid government. There is a time to be sweet and diplomatic, and then there is a time to call a spade a spade, and then there is s time to actually call a spade a shovel.

That said, peace.

We'd all like a police force made up of good cops..archetypal Dixon of Dock Green's (fictional UK copper of the 50s 60swho have a friendly word with young tearaways..Sadly that era never existed, and sometimes the cops in the UK resemble a paramilitary force.Don't get me wrong..I know many cops, who are damn decent, and have politics the polar opposite to a fascist, plus I have seen the fantastic work they have done working alongside Manchester's gay community..but there are elements who are comfortable behaving like Judge Dredd..backed up by a culture which condones these actions..(extra-judicial force does not arise from a social vacuum).
Whenever it comes to preservation of the state,we see which way even the decent police jump..or are forced to..ie during the 80s coal strike the Yorkshire Police Force was supplemented by cops from the Met (Metropolitan Police Force)..those from the Met had none of the local ties, and fairmindedness that the Yorkshire coppers displayed earlier in the strike. The violent actions of the Met,escalated the veracity of picket line violence..extremely (what was that about the UK populus being forelock tugging and deferential eh Alex f****** know all Jones !?).Those who hadn't wanted to become bootboys of the state were sidelined,or moved on,as war between free-market dogmatists and labour really kicked off.
I used to want to be a cop when I was young..I beleived it was about protecting the weak and punishing the bullies..it occasionally is..but often like above ...it is anything but.

Marena
first of all the "bastards" in the title - how do you want to call those policemen you see on the video I submitted??
secondly for me everybody who uses power in that way is a bastard
and finally, of course I generalize , as everybody does (it happened that I also met a nice policeWOMAN), "bastards" that's my opinion about police (not only UK police to be clear)
The whole idea of this "institution" is wrong - police should help people and protect them - that should be their prioritet - not to fight them
Agression is not the right response to agression yet they are agressive in most of cases

Marena the fact that you don't agree with me is not the reason to not comment at all - for sure you are not alone in your opinion
