SPEAK Campaign:
"Oxford University officially stated today, 11th November 2008, that its new animal torture lab is complete and that animals are in the process of being moved in. According to the University it will be fully operational by the middle of 2009, although of course it should always be remembered that Oxford has been proved to have lied consistently about this building and its use.

The opening of the lab has made SPEAK more determined than ever to continue campaigning against the horrific animal abuse carried out by this institution.

Oxford University is responsible for the suffering and death of thousands of animals; animals like Felix the macaque monkey, who after the University’s researchers had trained him to perform tasks, by depriving him of food and water, had the top of his head sliced off and electrodes forced into his brain; animals like the nine macaque monkeys used in one experiment where they were brain damaged and then had rubber snakes waved in their faces, after which the researchers made a tacit admission about the lack of relevance of their own research.

SPEAK succeeded in delaying the opening of the lab for over three years and, indeed, it was only completed because the Government stepped in and would not let it fail. The costs have spiralled out of control by millions of pounds, with no end in sight of this overspending. It has placed the subject of vivisection into the forefront of peoples' minds and has made it very clear to anyone else considering building any other such labs in the UK just how difficult that would be.

Now begins the next stage of the SPEAK Campaign – we have launched BOYCOTT OXFORD – CITY OF ANIMAL ABUSE aimed at tourists both in this country and abroad, letting people know that if they come to Oxford and spend their money at any of the University’s historic buildings or sites of interest they are contributing to an institution that routinely mutilates and brutalises animals. We will, of course, also continue to campaign on the streets of Oxford where we see support growing by the day.

The animals now entering this hellhole have no-one to speak for them, or fight for them, but us and we will continue the battle against the horrific suffering inflicted upon them in barbaric experiments until vivisection is consigned to the dustbin of history, where it belongs."

BBC Newsnight:
"Oxford Laboratory
Oxford University says the first animals have been moved into a new research laboratory in the city. Construction on the building was halted for more than a year point after protests from animal rights groups let to the contractors pulling out. Our medical correspondent Fergus Walsh is the only journalist to have been allowed inside to see the new facilities. Does this signify a turning point in the debate between animal rights and medical research? We'll bring together a scientist who does research on animals and a leader of an anti-vivisection group."
"What do you think of the stories we have covered? Do you have anything to say about the programme or the issues of the day? "

Is there anybody who suffer from Alzheimer or Parkinson disease and is against animal experiments?
How can they state that only animal experiments can help those people??
How many very ill people who have to take medical treatment would be feel much better if they would know nothing they take is tested on animals??
How many people died because some medicines went throught animal testing trial with positive opinion but they worked different in human body???
How many people refuse medical treatment knowing they could be involved in animal torture??

You are right Joanna, are animal tested drugs, the answer for alzheimer's sufferers?Even leaving aside our feelings and thoughts about animals,it is clear that other methods, with or without drugs are more beneficial to sufferers. We know from Tom Kitwoods work, that dementia often has a social-psychological basis,we also know that keeping a mind exercised and alert, wards off dementia. Some treatments such as 'reminiscence therapy'are staff intensive, again drugs often cover up social problems, and economic shortcomings..drug companies win,and paitients and animals lose out.
Some idiot defending Oxford Auschwitz, made the comment that it was the animal 'extremists',had made life harder for the lab animals,as their entry into the "labs"had been delayed. This meant that the animals, needed to wait a longer time,in very inadequate locked facilities.
Well pardon me,but if there wasnt a whole industry, devoted to this 'science'then the animals would never have needed to wait anywhere.
The BBC had a clear line on this article, which was a discourse which accepted the need for experiments, and took the word of the death camp guards,re treatment of animals in the labs..It has of course been proven,by undercover infiltrators and those who have spilt the beans, that over and over again ,the treatment of animals in labs is far worse, than the public are aware.
The BBC should have challenged that point..at best that is lazy journalism, but most probably is due to bias at the beeb.

Oh dear, this is super sad, for I am so against animals or humans being used for experiments!, it saddens me to no end. I will be their one of their voices and speak up for all of the ones that cannot do it themselves.

TY Joanna for bringing this to everyones attention here, I appreciate it, as I so dislike any living thing being "used" in any form or fashion. This is noted with sadness in my heart for these poor animals.
I will keep fighting for their rights!

TY Charles for the forward.

Blessings to us all,
FreeSpiritRunning...

"Men" ??????????? Cruel and cowardly! Stupid and dangerous! Worse than the Nazis! These despicable people do not deserve ... of live.

I am appalled and furiously angry against these degenerate. Their experiences are sterile, useless! Many doctors and researchers are against
these practices from another age.

The only way to get rid of the vivisectors, their lobby and every form of thier vile trade is to learn the facts and fight for the abolition of vivisection on the medical grounds NOT the ethical or moral thing.

The rights of animals is ignored everyday, if it wasnt we all wouldnt be here arguing about it.

Learn the medical facts online or offline if you have books, and only campaign offline completely.

There is absolutely no way anyone can succeed in abolishing it online and thats a fact. The most you can get online is information and con artist organizations.
So support noone, not even when they state promises or anything like that because they are lying to everyone.

Pardon the repetetive comment.

I will refuse any treatment when animals are involved in research for a cure. I would rather die, then let other fellow-species been tortured. I love life, but I also know that animals love their lives too!! I have NO right to abuse animals for the sake of human life.
Thanks Joanna for the very, very sad news...

I am really getting physically sick by the world. I am just glad that there are people like you out there that share my views and my suffer. I am doing as much as I can, believe me, but seems I can really do nothing.
My mind cannot get why and how and without any remorse or feelings these people can do such things. I really am at the end of my believe and hope taht we might change the world and lives of these poor creatures. I really do not believe in myself anymore.

I know that SPEAK is a good organization that exposes this university for what they do and it's unnecessary cruelty to animals! Animal testing and vivisection has been proven to be ineffective to human health as well as dangerous, please go to:

www.vivisectionfraud.com

and see what a con this is! Animal rights activists are all about pro life and are very compassionate people who care for humans too, this is why animal testing should stop as it harms all life, I wish people would just see this!

Please read this site and leave a comment!

I CAN'T STAND THIS, IT MAKES MY BLOOD BOIL, AND YES I HATE MANKIND FOR LETTING IT HAPPEN TO THESE DEFFENSLESS ANIMALS. MAY THE PEOPLE WHO DO THIS TO ANIMALS BE STRICKEN WITH A HORRIBLE DISEASE NOT ONLY THEM BUT ALSO THEIR FAMILIES THEY DO NOT DESERVE TO LIVE ON THE FACE OF THIS EARTH.

THE ONLY WAY THESE "THINGS" CAN DO THIS TO THE ANIMALS--THEY HAVE NO HEART/SOUL OR COMPASSION--SO IT DOESN'T BOTHER THEM! MAYBE THEIR "HELL" SOME DAY--WILL BE LIVING IN A CAGE--IN A LAB--BEING EXPERIMENTED ON!

Looks like public opinion in England is too divided on this issue, or this "facility" would not have been built.
Same thing in the rest of Europe, in USA, Canada, and all over the world.

Yes, WE are appalled and protest - and rightly so. But most people are not and do not. That's the sad reality.

Lars K. (234)
Saturday November 15, 2008, 3:27 am
In a wider perspective, as long as people mistreat other people, animal abuse will continue. And as long as we mistreat animals, we will continue to abuse people.
I wish I cold say violence is decreasing. But the scary thing is, it's not getting any better - it's getting worse.

So it is obvious we ourselves are unable to solve our problem. We need someone to help us . Only one person is capable of doing that. His name is Jesus.

It is sad and deplorable that anyone feels that torturing any creature is a way to "test" products meant for human use. It will take all of us working together to make everyone realise the horrors that occur in these types of places. One day, the mistreatment of living creatures will be viewed with the same disdain as slavery and will be condemned for the atrocity that it is.

Ty Joanna. I have noted. There aren't words in the dictionary that can describe how I feel on this subject. It makes me physically ill.
I am going home to the UK for a vacation next summer. I will not be going to Oxford to spend my tourist money just to enable these death chambers.
