Yes, it is a very powerful, passively activist statement to the government and the entire world. If anough people cooperate this could very well make a difference somehow.

Speaking as someone who knew from the very morning of 9-11 that something was terribly wrong about it all, regarding the govt.'s "official version":
It is incredibly refreshing to see how mass public opinion has swayed in these last six years. I believe something like 70% to 80% of Americans now have serious doubts as to the veracity of that "official version".
I am excited about the General Strike on 9-11-07, and I intend to participate as much as a disabled, housebound man can.

Just have to throw this in:

"Between 1898 and 1934, the Marines invaded Cuba 4 times, Nicaragua 5 times, Honduras 7 times, the Dominican Republic 4 times, Haiti twice, Guatemala once, Panama twice, Mexico 3 times and Columbia 4 times," Washington has intervened militarily in foreign countries more than 200 times."
Amazing fact.

I'm going to have to think on this. If I am forthcoming and tell my bosses I'm striking for this effort, I have no doubt whatsoever they'll fire me. This is still Bush country, sad as that is, and my bosses are devout republicans. I could follow the spirit of the effort and just call in "sick," but I'd be lying and that seems wrong. I'm not sure what to do.

Here is a call for action in Seattle
Rich Lang is a Methodist minister from Seattle. He is a passionate and powerful speaker (please watch the enclosed link). He is right in saying that passive protest is not going to change
anything. That this is clearly evident is reflected in the sad fact that
despite Democrat control of Congress there are more troops in Iraq than ever
with no end in sight. Congress keeps funding the war and recently it even
expanded the ability of Alberto Gonzales and the Bush adminstration to
continue to rob us of our civil liberties and freedoms. He is calling for
action that will REALLY get the attention our elected officials and the
media...all non-violent of course.
Pass it on.

Hey James : ) well, you could get what we used to call the industrial flu -- and if your bosses would retaliate because of you expressing your ideas and opinions I would not be too upset if I withheld the truth from them. They obviously can't handle the truth anyway.

I will be participating in this without reservation. I am also planning to fly our flag upside down from my apt. window as a sign of our nation's distress.

Thank you for the post. Gandhi, a pacific man, made a tremendous impact. Martin Luther King, Jr. continues to inspire and was martyred because he exercised peacefully his truth--his experience and his hopes for the world. Everything matters. We must all follow our hearts, wherever they lead us, or we lose our integrity.
God Bless the United States of America and what she will once again stand for.

I hear about these strikes every once in a while and usually just go about business as usual thinking I'm only one person, how can I possibly make a difference? But this one I'm on.

I want to do this but I can't keep my children out of school they love it so well, and my husband is having a hard enough time finding a job already, this may hurt him even more. I will have to talk to him and the principal of the school to see if they will excuse them for this. Love and hugs Mary O.

James M. If you think about the fact that it was our government that orchestrated th events of 9/11 that should make you plenty sick and then you wouldn't be lying.

To quote Thomas Paine:

"Failed petitions only empower the tyrants."

It is time for action.

But you can't just stay at home - you need to have a banner or flag like the logo on top to carry to your rep's office along with others and make a real statement - contact the press and media - "the word" is no good if it is not heard.

Christian - you are right about the '60s and we need that power again - you metioned apathy - many of you know my saying by now - Apathy is the Death Knell of Democracy. C'mon all you former hippies and educated young people - jump on this bandwagon!

I've been doing this every year since the towers came down. Glad to have more company this year. I only attend memorial services that day. My employers and everyone who knows me know to count me out on anything else. This day's practice has become similar to lent- Good Friday, to me at least.

Pretend you are a CSI technician and follow the evidence. If only 5% of it is true then the government was involved. If 90% is true as many academics believe, then then America is asleep...

http://www.livingfaithnow.org/

[A PROGRESSIVE Christian site for ALL faiths]

Many ministers and religious leaders and people of faith are coming forward; and forming nuclei of non-violent resistance and actions of Civil Disobedience.
As churches were centers of Resistance and Civil Disobedience against repressive laws, and sources of spiritual support during the Black Civil Rights Movement.
The message of the world's spiritual leaders has not totally been hijacked by the televangelists and the money!
