And we the sheeple are screwed again...the Senate gave final approval on Wednesday afternoon to broadening the government's spy powers and providing legal immunity for the phone companies that took part in the wiretapping program.

NObama voted yes, Hillary voted no, and McCain't didn't bother to vote at all! Bush is going to sign this one so fast your eyes will blur trying to follow his filthy little hand. This bill ends the more than 40 lawsuits against the telecom giants still federal courts. THANK YOU, WASHINGTON DC! We're screwed again and you didn't even kiss us afterward!

Wow, thanks Cate my friend, noted. The only thing I can say is what everyone else here is thinking & saying about our govt.
I have a son which is all of 13, and he already knows about our govt. and how corrupt it is. The things that our young minds even know about how our govt. works has got to say something. He knows, the children all know about our USA and our President. When our own children are noticing & taking note about what is going on in our country, that is a good thing. Thank God for our children.
In hopes of having a better America.
Many blessings to us all,

"The issue put Senator Barack Obama of Illinois, the presumptive Democratic nominee, in a particularly precarious spot. After long opposing the idea of immunity for the phone companies in the wiretapping operation, he voted for the plan on Wednesday."
I'm curious as to why Obama flip flopped on this.....
Wednesday July 9, 2008, 5:44 pm
That is the last straw. It is now official, we're now no longer in either a Republic or a Democracy. The oilygarchy has won. The recourse is send letters of no confidence to Congress and the President. The U.S. public can no longer recognize the regime of the Viceroy George Bush and Emperor Dick "Phallus" Cheney the Filthy. Our last resort is to physically remove all corporate Executives from corporations and Dissolve the Congress, Supreme Court and the Presidiency.

Obama does the flip-flop dance. McCan't wears diapers and suffers from CRS - McCan't can't be bothered to vote.
"Lawyers involved in the lawsuits against the phone companies promised to challenge the immunity provision in federal court, although their prospects appeared dim."
Telecoms got very lucky this time. Wonder how much money they spent to get this immunity passed...

Hmmmm....Clinton/Feingold sounds good to me! Why the heck is anyone even thinking of McCain't or NObama????
From article:
"I urge my colleagues to stand up for the rule of law and defeat this bill,” Senator Russ Feingold, Democrat of Wisconsin, said Wednesday as the outcome was all but assured.

well, i guess they really want aunt martha's secret recipe. I don't know all i got to say if they have to listen to my conversations they must not have much of a life.
on the serious side, to see personal freedoms stolen it's criminal. Isn't this why Nixon was kicked out of office for listening to others. Heck if it was today all he'd have to say it's a matter of national security. I guess they were more honest back then??
I hadn't thought about it from the perspective of Eileen R., but it sounds plausible to me. (Really a sad commentary that Nixon may have been more honest.)

To me, it's not a matter of what they're
listening to me say, it's the principle
of it to begin with; It's that they're
listening at all. Who the hell do they
think they are?!
One of the elements of our "post 9-11 world",
another phrase that makes me want to get sick
everytime I hear it.
No point in checking to see how MY
senators voted, those 2 worthless
Repugnicants!

David, my husband would agree with you. Take them all down...and rebuild what was once the hope of the world. We no longer have any moral authority to suggest ANYTHING to any other country. And BUSHCo wants to bring "democracy" to Iraq. What a laugh...especially now that Big Oil is back in Iraq's oil fields.
Thursday July 10, 2008, 5:04 am
The U.S. never had "moral authority" to begin with.
Nixon's problem was that he didn't get the country on his side via fear first.
OK. So we up and revolt. Then what? Magically, we somehow become wiser and more mature, able to choose better candidates? When those candidates figure out the way of things, and try to make the hard decisions - because money doesn't just fall from the sky - they'll draw our collective ire and be criticized as harshly as our politicians are today. No, we're missing a step in the grand plan: learn to sacrifice unselfishly for the greater good. Only when we can *all* agree on the important issues, will we be able to forge a less corrupt governmental body.
Oh noze! You mean *we* can't just blame things on people like Nobama, Shillary, and McCain't? Nope, sorry - it's *everybody's* fault. Everyone who never voted, never lobbied, never studied history, never considered the
other side's POV.
Our government is the way it is because we the people let it become that way through inaction and apathy. The football season and American Idol were much more important.

Noted thanks Cate. We don’t ever get a kiss from those who screw us, especially BushCo. I don’t blame him as much as I blame the Senate for allowing this awful bill to pass. I got an e-mail from Sen. Carl Levin who told me he was outraged by the vote to allow immunity to communication companies, and now any and all cases can be dismissed for cooperating with the illegal wiretapping program instituted by BushCo as long as the Attorney General said it was legal, that it was for tracking terrorist information outside the US, and now they can wiretap us without a warrant effectively wiping out our Fourth Amendment Guarantee from unreasonable search and seizure. The passage of this Senate Bill gives BushCo exactly what he wanted. We have a Congress and Senate who are a bunch of spineless cowards, and I will NOT be voting for any incumbent who is running for re-election in November. They will not get my vote. Plain and simple. Kick their coward assess out the door. And we wonder the reason our country is in such a mess.
Congress has an approval rating of only 9%, which makes Bush look like the best president we’ve ever had, NOT! I hope Pelosi and Reid are defeated in November. We don’t need these two cowards in the House of Representatives who refuse to hold Bush accountable for his war crimes. I always suspected that Pelosi made a secret deal with the village idiot not to put impeachment back on the table. In addition it’s the Speaker of the House who determines what bills are heard on the floor. Way to go Nancy. Don’t go away mad when you get beat in November, just go away….

Thanx Cate. I am very disappointed in this vote. This has nothing to do with security, it's all about protecting the image of HRH George II who was playing fast and loose with law in regards to civil liberties of American citizens. Let's not look too close at these records. Nor do we want to look underneath rocks and rotting trees lest we might find something ugly there. I am also disappointed with Obama's vote when he has long indicated otherwise. And it may be sad to note that Hillary Clinton's vote did not surprise me. It is also interesting that John McCain deigned not to show up for the vote considering he feels this is vitally imnportant for the security of the republic. If so, why is he campaigning when there was important work to do? Lots of hypocrits out there.

Wouldn't a "Working People's Party" be just the ticket? Of course it would never get anyone elected nationally, but maybe on a local level? Hmmm...gotta think about this...
