Hey - I don't know many people with much, if any, discretionary income - do you? People cutting back on spending what they don't have to spend is hitting all business sectors as the effects of our miserable economy ripple outward.

Noted, thanks Cate. I know all about this economy. Everytime I go to the supermarket I cringe because I know the prices are going to be higher this week than last. And with the colder weather on its way I don't dare look at my energy bill. My summer bills were 50% higher than last years. So I know I'm going to be hurting this winter. Big energy never dips into their profits, but passes them down to us. This should be illegal but it isn't.

Many economists are calling for a 400% Hyper-Inflationary period by 2010, which could lead to a Global Depression. They also warn about FDIC guarantees, and what good is protected money if it's locked up for an indefinite period of time? How about Gold? During the last Great Depression Gold transactions were outlawed, and people with Gold could not buy or sell, except illegally! At least with a wheelbarrow full of cash in hand, it can be traded for emergency 'script' money to buy food. It has been estimated there is a one in five chance of this going to the extreme situation!

What is the veracity of this story...

Let me see: The "Beige Book" - It is put out by the commerce department, and other federal agencies with culled notes, from various sources, by the federal government. And who quantifies the reports from the many sources, businesses, into the "Beige Book"... the Feds or is it The neo-cons...

There was a report that the FDIC was looking into borrowing money from the Federal Reserve. Prior to that story, about a month earlier, was a full-page ad by the FDIC stating that your money was safe in the banks.

All of the above makes me think "something's afoot"...

Um, what is 'discretionary'??????? Um, what is 'income'??? Oh wait, that's that piece of paper that shows me what they dole out to me and what is not really there anyway because the bills ate it up, right? I thought so. Sorry for being fascetious, but, I plan on being in a very bad mood for the next 2 months to 4 years. :) The sky is falling and the dodo birds in DC are ignoring it. Typical.

We're getting a break until after the elections, hoping voters will be fooled into thinking the economy is improving. Not! Sometime in late November or December, expect gas, food and everything else to start skyrocketing.

Grow a garden of vegetables, exchange with neighbors, reduce, recycle, refuse, readjust, remove and do everything possible to be independent of the system.
