This is excellent news - there is a preponderance of evidence to show he is most likely not guilty. 7 witnesses have RECANTED. HURRAY! Let's put pressure on people to finally clear him.

Noted. What a wonderful piece of news...and a ray of hope. Every now and then along comes a person of courage and does the right thing...not the politically expedient thing...but the moral thing. When that happens, it shines the bright light of the possible into the darkest corners and gives us reason to keep on doing what we do in the face of odds that seem insurmountable. My heart rejoices for Troy Davis, his family, and all of those who have labored to bring him to this state of grae. Now...exoneration and freedom. Thank you, Cate, for this post.

Thank you, Cate!

This is great news for justice. Even the family of the fallen officer should feel some relief that they may not be forced to go through life with a question mark regarding this case. They deserve closure, and only a new trial for Troy Davis can provide the information we all need to put aside any questions of guilt or innocence for this man.

Last July when Troy was granted clemency by the Georgia Pardons and Paroles Board, he was never granted a new trial to go along with it! Let us keep calling and writing letters -- someone should start a NEW TRIAL FOR TROY PETITION -- to see that this never happens again to this man.

To be moved from your cell on death row to within a few feet of the death chamber TWICE in one's life is just too much torture for anyone to have to deal with.

PLEASE GIVE THIS MAN A NEW TRIAL!

America needs to ask themselves why is it the majority on death row are black whites commit horrendous crimes as well.maybe its because the justice one get in America relies on two points
1. the colour of your skin
2. How much justice you can afford to buy

Nothing better than some real good news to start the day !
But they really kept him hanging in suspense till the last minute.
This has more to do with sadism than justice, I afraid.

Good news indeed! Too many innocent people have died in the USA!
DNA and better CSI will help many of them! But will we hear about all of them?
Will the family know that they have been killed by accident or by mistake?
99% of the cases are cold cases and you will not hear anything about it!

Noted, thanks cate. Comments are appearing on the wrong pages. A new glitch in the C2 software and servers?

Form what I understand about this case is that when 7 out of 9 alleged witnesses recanted it left the persecution team with no evidence. No DNA, no fingerprints, or anything else to connect Troy Davis to the crime. Finally a potentially innocent man has escaped a death sentence. If his sentenced had not been stayed he would have been executed and the investigation would have been over. This new news will permit a new and more transparent investigaion and might leas to a new trial where he can be set free. It is too often an innocent man finds him/herself on death row for crimes they didn't commit.

I believe in the power of prayer in numbers, "E me nv" {AMEN}...I thank you Mary, Cate,{for the article, noted hon} and to all of us that have had the courage and caring to have spoken up about another human being getting executed!

Kudos to all who that cares about their fellowman, commaraderie...there's nothing better feeling in the world to know that you have helped someone today! I would want help, if I ever needed it, and so would all of you.

Glory be, I am elated over this, but the battle is not over, unfortunately...so keep the prayers coming for Troy & his family everyone because he will need them. I will light a candle for them all. Site is www.gratefulness.com, I believe, just a share.

Wado Great Spirit for watching over the innocent!
Dohiyi {peace} to us all in the Universe,
FreeSpiritRunning...

One more battle won but the war is not over yet...troymust be cleared as his conviction would appear to be unsafe.

Group pressure from round the world put the killers of Texus in the spotlight...let's keep them there until they decide to join the civilised world and put an end to the death penalty for good.

Chris R. If I have to support a murder in prison for the rest of his life, I find that childish and stupid. A quick execution would benefit society as a whole. Now if your planning on killing someone and you think you'll be caught then I can see your point. Now if God can odrer people to kill others it kinda blows his "thou shalt not kill," straight to hell doesn't it. When you've killed someone, you've shown that you can not live by the laws of your society. if your laws are like the Muslims then you are given permission to kill all infidels which makes it legal. We could stop executions by simply confining the convicted murderers to a large island that would only need to be patroled by two or three naval ships, this way they can live free, grow their own food, and fish for meat, and get along with all other murderers who will be sent to the same island. This will cut back on maximum prisons here in the states less guards, no visitors to worry about, no mail of any type, no phones, not one damn cost to law abiding citizens. At $63,000 per prisoner we could have a large bundle of money to help those who really need our help. We could give each man a tent, a spade to dig with and seeds to help him grow his own vegetables. He has the sea to wash in and like the people who live on the coast and have no latrine facilities, the tide comes in and the tide goes out twice a day. If we could do this then there would be no need to execute anyone. But as long as I'm paying for their incarceration, they deserve nothing.
