Ah well, another embarrassing typo in a story title. That's "STAMP" of approval. Anyway, it's a good resource for understanding just what the FDA is up to and how they operate when it come to approving - or yanking - those pill and liquids we ingest.

FDA approved means absolutely nothing...other than the pharma-terrorists paid the chairman the right kickback amount. As far as what is dangerous or not to our health, I'll stick with natural medicine!

Anyone noticed in the drug commercials how many of these drugs have the potential to KILL YOU????!!!! I have. No thank you!

They are blithering idiots and only in it for the MONEY.There are medicines available around the world better than what we have in the US.My mother had problems and had to go to Bogota,Columbia to get help. Her sister sent her a ticket and said come visit, she did.In a month she was a new woman. The point is that she couldn't get the drug here. She had to go to another continent because of the almighty dollar and politics.

What they don't do was actually covered last night on Boston Legal and will be continued next week. Yep, Boston Legal is taking on Big Pharma, it should be a hell of a ride.

This article is heplful to an extent. It is true that the gap between what the agency is supposed to do and what it is able to do is too wide.
Missing is the role of "big Pharm", and how its special interests compromise the agency, forcing a bias against the "alternatives". A Chinese herb like Ephedra, which has been used for over a thousand years, is made unlawful for relatively few deaths (related to dosage & contraindications), while something we take for granted like Tylenol, is very toxic and has killed thousands !
The actual concern, behind the scenes, is not whether something is safe, but whether it can be patented to make money for the drug companies.

Noted. Thanks Cate. I have a friend that has Crohn's disease. He goes to Mexico for treatment because the dolts in Washington won't approve the shots he gets. He has been doing this for over 10 years, and he is doing great.

FDA = BIG PHARMA. Out to make money whether the meds are good for you or not.

There are some good people in the FDA, if they haven't left already, who have been censured or had their research papers redacted.

The head of the FDA and past head have been bush appointees with very little experience or knowledge in running the agency. Yes, even the religious right have gotten their hands in the agency, witness the morning-after-pill and birth control pills, contraceptives.

This article submitted had me doubting the veracity of it. It sounded more like a PR spin ad than anything else.

One way to clean up the agency is to get rid of the puke appointees on the governing board and the head of the FDA. The FDA should be an independent agency, free from big pharma, religious zealots, and partisan politics.

TY, Ombretta L.

I agree, Jim, but how likely is that? Political appointees are far and wide known to be idiots, and that hasn't changed since we lost JFK.
