The House votes Friday on the revised bill with all those pork-barrel add-ons. DISGUSTING performance by the senate, with constituent phone calls, emails and faxes running 100-1 against this bill.

Noted. I am too angry to put togethr a coherent comment. We were screwed tonight by our Senate. Hope it was good for you. I was in touch with the Louisiana senators this afternoon and they did hold firm....that is the only solace I have is that those whom I helped to elect did hear the collective voices of their constituents and voted to reflect that. Those Senators, including the ones standing for election this November, are going to rue this day. You and I, however, will pay dearly. Thank you, Cate. The oligarchy reigns supreme.

I'm so mad I just don't know what to say. We have to stop this $850B mess. It is unconstitutional and treasonous. 85% of the calls that came in, and there were a gazillion calls, said NO! They didn't listen to their constituents. It's unbelievable. YOU ARE ALL F*CKING FIRED!
No it didn't make be feel better, dagnabit.

I wrote my senators, Mr. Dodd the Banking Chair of the Senate, and worthless neocon traitor Lieberman. And I have no doubt you all contacted your senators too. Did they listen? Do they CARE about what we their constituents think? Three-quarters of them DO NOT and this vote proves it! The HELL with them...

Mein Gott in Himmel.
I may as well say it in German, because we now may end
up having that hyper-inflation the Germans has following
World War One. By 1923 German inflation was running at
800 million percent. Not that I'm saying it will get that
bad here, but how bad will it have to get before it's a
genuine hardship on us average Americans?
I SO agree with Carolyn: We The People got raped in
Times Square at high noon by the U.S. Senate tonight.
And why do I get the creepy feeling the House is gonna
do the same damned thing on Friday?
Let's look on the bright side, though(he said, with gallows humor).
These are the good old days.
Thanks, Cate.

I want to know who's really behind this bailout, and what Bush - who is not smart enough to have had a hand in this - and legislators have been threatened with - and by whom - if it doesn't pass in the form Henry Paulson is pushing for. Is it America's shadow government, in place and operational (think 9/11) since the assassination of JFK? SOMEBODY knows...

This is how much our Congresspeople care:

An email to your Congressman may not go through in light of the recent controversy over the failed Wall Street bailout bill.

The Hill.com, a political website that covers Congress, reported today that the U.S. House of Representatives has taken to limiting emails in light of the ongoing financial crisis.

Constituents who use the Congressional website to email the representatives will likely get a message telling them to try back later.

The Chief Administrative Office (CAO), which oversees the upkeep of the House website and member email services, decided to restrict email after an onslaught of messages nearly overwhelmed the government servers.

"This measure has become temporarily necessary to ensure that Congressional websites are not completely disabled by the millions of emails flowing into the system," the CAO said in a letter. - Los Angeles Web Examiner

Fortunately, phones lines are still open. Those wishing to contact their representative should look here for their Washington telephone number.

Sorry I'm late Ombretta, I was 'held-up' (insert picture of a gun) by Care2 glitch, but I've arrived on scene! Better late than never.

No matter how this plays out, it will only slow the crumbling economy, with or without bailout!

People in the streets are calling for criminal indictments against those responsible on Wall Street, but only a reforming 'slap on the wrist' is all they'll get.

On to the House vote: Win, Lose, or Draw?

Cate, Laurie, c'mon over, Ladies.
We'll fire up the pipe and sing
"American Pie".
Speaking of which, this seems fitting right now:

"I met a girl who sang the blues,
and I asked her for some happy news,
but she just smiled and turned away.
I went down to the sacred store,
where I'd heard the music years before,
but the man there said the music wouldn't play.
And in the streets, the children screamed,
the lovers cried and the poets dreamed.
But, not a word was spoken.
The church bells all were broken.
And, the three men I admire most,
the Father, Son and the Holy Ghost,
they caught the last train for the coast
the day the music died."

In a little over a month it will be our turn to vote and all those that supported this measure should be voted out of office. That is the only way we are going to make them understand that if they don't represent us they don't get to work for us. Kick them OUT.

Thankfully, for what good it did, both of my Kansas senators voted NO.

yes,we were sold out all righty.

But then what do they really have to worry about in the way of backlash from the American people? Our votes don't even count when picking a candidate - that is done by the delegates+ super delegates. Presidential elections, that is done by an electoraal college - not each person's vote. So what if the American people disapprove...just keep all those protests off of mainstream news and nobody will really know. Not that it matters.

In the movie "Sicko" by Michael Moore, I have to say that the biggest thing I took away from the movie was an interview with people in France regarding the attitude of the government etc. and somebody said "In France the government is still afraid of the people when they march in the street, what a shame for the people to be afraid of their government instead!..."

Oh boy, aren't I gonna (A'Palin) be popular, not. I don't see what else they could have done. Yes, more time and increased refinement on all points, but, back to the time factor. Something had to be done. The domino, ripple effect of this crisis simply will not cease to exist because we don't like it, or want to pay for it. We will pay for it, want to talk 'main street' repercussions, if we don't do something to slow it down, we will all be further f'd. If it is for naught, then it makes no difference. F'd coming or going. If it does help, the rest of the world will thank us. Have you noted 'our' effect in other markets and countries, not so good.

If we're going to be pissed off, let's direct our ire where it belongs, not on this hapless congress, yet, but at the greed encrusted monsters that perpetrated this travesty.

"Instead of siding with a $700 billion bailout, lawmakers could now say they voted for increased protection for deposits at the neighborhood bank, income tax relief for middle-class taxpayers and aid for schools in rural areas where the federal government owns much of the land."
"Moreover, the increase in federal deposit insurance will not be financed over the short term, as the insurance program now is, by assessing premiums on banks that benefit. Instead, banks will get an open-ended line of credit directly to the Treasury Department. But the Congressional Budget Office noted that federal law requires the banks to eventually make up any shortfall and any loans to be repaid, though not until at least 2010." --NYT

I don't know about you, but I'm sure glad that the thousand dollars I have in the bank is insured up to $250,000 now.

Do we get to charge the banks interest now, or can I subtract my portion of the bill for the cost of the bail-out from my mortgage payment?

No, really, we borrow money from a bank, we get charged interest, so what interest rate are we charging them? How about 0% for the first year then 16% after that, 19% should the banks miss a payment, with compounding interest on late payments and late fees.

Oh, it's all pie in the sky at this point, they're getting us all ready to live in tent cities so we'll be happy to have company supplied housing, as we make cheap plastic crap for China.

I am sorry folks, but do you REALLY think that $700 and then++++++Billion will make any difference??????????
You must believe in the Tooth Fairy!!!!!!!!This is just a means to an end......The Amero is due in next year, and the $US is supposed to crash before then........This is but part of a carefully ochestrated plan,,,,,,,We are watching Political Theatre, as we are being entertained, they ,are stealing your, job, lifestyle your home, your and your families future, and all that is important. They have brought back a battle hardened Army unit from the Middle East to be used AGAINST YOU, if you try to assert you legal lawfull rights.
If you work on the worst case scenario, and act accordingly, you may have a chance.....if you believe that this is not the case.......you may finish up a creek, without the proverbial paddle.....with nowhere to go. ...it would be a big risk....Remember these families that are pulling the strings have been doing this for a long long time....they KNOW what they are doing.....you have tent cities now......they get results by WHATEVER the means.......they haven't even HEARD of the GOLDEN RULE that we learnt as children, and live our lives by. Trust a rabid dog more than these players...it would be safer........your laws of the land are being manipulated and used against you.....to your detriment....we are but an inconvenience to their grand plan....they have the time....and we are trusting...and we have no concept of the grossness or callousness of their plans......with or without us??!!

OK First let me say that both the Senaters from my state voted against this bill so they were listening to their people- I am proud of them both that would be Thad Cochran and Roger Wicker and both Republicons I might add-what a pleasent surprise for me-I had called and e-mailed and it seems so had most of the voters in Ms. also I will say that this current bill and I have not finished reading it all states clearly that the taxpayers must stay protected and that the savings accounts, social security and banks that serve the lower and middle class must remain open and protected so that is a good start however I have Not read it all yet so I am reserving any conclusions till then thanx so much 4 the post

It would be wise to remember that. This is a non existant "crisis", that is starting to exist because folks are starting to believe their BULL*&^%. It figures that sneaky Cornyn went with it the 2nd time. He was probably looking in the mirror at himself when the vote was taken. He has become increasingly hard to reach by email, typing in a code, then he wants it on his own form, blah, blah, blah. I was hoping the American people would continue to scream, but either we didn't, they didn't listen, or the whole thing really was orchestrated. So, when does that party start at Tim's?
