...read this lighthearted yet telling column by Gail Collins. She shines an amusing light on an otherwise ugly political season.

Reading this first thing on a dreary Monday morning cracked me up. I hope you enjoy it too. The line about Lieberman in Miami made my morning.

OK, no one has remarked on the fact that I said I read this on a dreary MONDAY morning...so I will tell on myself. I got up firmly convinced it was Monday and I had to get ready for work. At 8 AM I cleaned up, put on a dress, put on some foundation to attempt to disguise the trunks under my eyes, a little lipstick and a touch of eyeliner and headed out the door dreading seeing my psychotic bitchboss. (Note: I usually wear NO makeup to work but I was trying to cheer myself up - LOL!)

As I walked down the four flights to the apartment parking lot, I noticed most of the cars were still in place. But as this is a complex with a diverse population, I didn't dwell on it as people here have all kinds of jobs and work all kinds of shifts.

I got into my car and when I started it on came the radio, set to the morning talk show in Hartford that gives traffic and weather. Instead of the usual, there was a solemn voice intoning solemn thoughts about one's relationship to Jesus Christ. I thought this was a bit odd but shrugged it off as an ad for a church.

I drove to the first stop sign in the complex and the holy man was still droning on. It wan't really until then that I got suspicious about what day it was, so I turned the corner, pulled over and took out my cell phone. After finally figuring out how to access the calendar, I saw SUNDAY OCT 19 highlighted on the grid.

So there I was: all dressed up, no place to go and feeling like a fool (which just happens to be a line from a song I wrote many moons ago Life imitates art). Not to waste the effort I had put into forcing myself out the door, I drove out to get milk, which we needed, and cigarettes, which I needed, went to Dunkin' Donuts for an extra large coffee and drove home again.

I was met by my husband, who laughed when he saw me walk in in a dress...it's not going to be a good day....LMAO!!!

"America is the home of the most talented and enterprising and creative workers in the world,”

The only thing Bush ever said that was right!

Great article, now Mc Same is blaming Obama for bringing up Joe's name!!!!!!! Hello! It was YOU, Mc Cain that outed Joe! What is wrong with this man? The Mc Same camp is now saying that Obama has caused this man so much trouble! I can hardly wait for this to be over! My dear Cate, I am so glad I am not alone in mixing up my days! Or going to work at my grandsons school and forgot to change out of my Jammie's!!!! He was mortified! Thank you for letting me know that I am at least partially normal! Noted! Love you Cate!

I enjoyed the article but enjoyed your mixed up days better. That has happened to me but didn't dare tell anyone. Now that I am 10+ years older, I can laugh about it. Was afraid I was losing my mind. However, in my retirement, I NEVER know what day it is. Just last week ran in and asked my husband why he took a day off. (never just takes a day off!) Like the man that I was married to, he jumped, looked at me and just shook his head and went back to sleep. Until I turned on the TV, I didn't know it was Sunday. Well, he was off work Fri for some holiday so it was my fault. In my world, he is home only 2 days a week and sits in front of the tv til Monday. You made my day Cate and I couldn't stop laughing as I now know, I am not losing my mind in old age. It is just a brain fart!

I shouldn't laugh about this,
because it's not funny, but......
I had to crack up last week, when
GWB addressed the nation to tell us
all not to worry about Wall Street
plumetting, it was going to be okay.
The market dropped 200 or so points while
he was talking. Nothing like being a popular
president, huh, George? hee-hee-hee!
Thanks, Cate.

Good article, and great story. I have not gotten up and dressed yet, but, I have woke up and feared being late for work on Sunday. I am sure I will be there soon. I want you to quit smoking though. Please. Ok, I don't know you, so I won't nag. Hugs!

Terrible month, Cate. You got that right. Double-decker bummer for me. Started out being chased by four cars at a time, went You Tube for wide disclosure and safety, hopefully, the country's financial crisis has nothing on mine, 911 says "Don't call us!" and to top it all off, Troy Davis has a new death sentence date - Oct. 27. Make mine a triple.
