The US attacked Syria. Objective: kill terrorist accomplice, carried out under a quietly-revised but just announced policy of going after countries, groups & persons who aid terrorists in any way in obtaining WMDs. How many more countries might we attack?

Quote from article:
"On Monday, senior officials justified a weekend attack against a suspected Iraqi insurgent leader in Syria by saying the administration was operating under an expansive new definition of self-defense. The policy, officials said, provided a rationale for conventional strikes on militant targets in a sovereign nation without its consent — if that nation were unable or unwilling to halt the threat on its own."

More:
"Early this year, in a little-noticed speech at Stanford University, Stephen J. Hadley, Mr. Bush’s national security adviser, also spoke of how the president had approved an expanded deterrence policy."

This has apparently been brewing for a long time, and as Bush reaches the final months of his destructive power, he apparently intends to set the stage for more and father-reaching aggressive action as a gift to the incoming president.

Thank you Cate! Did you hear any complaints? I think that the USA could start world war III and you would not hear any complaints....

Giovanni, don't you think this action just might have been timed so that it occurred when Americans are deeply worried about their jobs, their savings and the rest of the world-wide economic crisis? When people re fearful about whether or not they're facing destitution, I'm afraid things like this take a back seat. I am not saying it's right, but it's expected, and I am sure the government knows this, too.

Noted, thanks Cate. I beieve it is up to Syria to take care of any terrorists in their country and not the responlibilty of the US to hunt and kill them. Apparently the Iraqi who was killed could not have launched an attack on the US.Once again Bush is overstepping his authority by interferring in the rights of sovereign countries like Syria. This attack comes at a time when we are hurting financially, and wondering if we can survive this fraud that was committed by our own government (again), with our undivided attention focused on the economy Bush pulls off another attack on a foreign country under the guise that it is an expanded course of action against any terrorist in any country. What countries are left: Israel, Jordon, Palestine, Lebanon, and Iran come to mind.

I actually beieve that Bush is looking for a way to stay in power. He has always wanted to be our dictator. He is a dictator now, but not to the extent he would like to be...It's time to start looking for a new country to move to where we will be safe if this is possible. Everyone hates us so much that we are not welcomed anywhere in the world...

If they truly want to go after people and groups that support and aid terrorism, they could start with 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue rather than somebody's family farm in Syria.

We have NO BUSINESS tending someone else's garden when we cannot even tend our own. This is a war crime. So are all the actions being carried out in Pakistan. We do NOT have the right to carry out aggressions in sovereign nations. PERIOD. It is uncontitutional and against all our UN pacts and the Geneva Conventions.

This is EMPIRE.

Why is the Bush/Cheney Cabal still in power???? Why have they not been arrested? Why are they atill frickin' breathing???? Why is The Hague and The UN silent????

CARE??? This is one American that still gives a damn about what goes on worldwide IN OUR NAME!!! I will never understand how a handful of thugs could do this to Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, all the rest of the world and to us, their own country. How did our Justice system and our Representatives ALLOW this to happen??? WHY??????

i still think Bush will be unable to resist his last chance to start WWIII

-- I will be VERY SURPRISED if he doesn't attack something or somebody very loudly before the election.

He belongs in Guantanamo along with his whole administration

It just seems to me that we should take care of the problems over here first before we go looking for trouble in other countries. No wonder you hear of people saying they hate Americans. Good fences make good neighbors, but it seems as if our government has chosen to ignore some of those fences and is poking around in the neighbor's yards. What ever happened to solving problems with discussions and not violence???? Do not other countries have the right to live their lives their way with out us getting involved in their business? Shouldn't we have to be invited into a country if they want our help? I really don't like the idea of the USA acting like our way is the only way it makes us all look like a bunch of bad bullies. We should do more to secure our borders here, and not waste the tax payers money to open hunting season on all the terrorist around the world. Who gets to choose who is a terrorist and who is not? How many innocent people will be killed if they get in the way? Does anyone really support this kind of bloodshed against any human? I would like to see justice and not any human hunted down in cold blooded killings. We are suppose to be one nation under God so where is the justification in doing this when God has told us "Thou shalt not kill" ?????? We are living in very strange times. We need to question our leaders actions and make them accountable for those actions. Peace and love to all - try to treat your neighbors the way you would want to be treated and the world will be a better place.

Those of us on who have access to the Internet and Alternative/Independent Media coverage are able to make the connections, and can't believe Bush, Cheney & Company are not impeached and tried for treason !

Most people, however, do not have the information they need to come to the same conclusions.

The Mainstream Media is owned by the perpetrators of most of our problems. Tied in with the Oil Barons and Wall Street Billionaires. That's why someone like Kucinich demanding accountability can be marginalized, why 3rd party candidates will not be heard, etc., etc.

Hypnotized and conditioned by the word "terrorist", all too many Americans will buy an excuse for this - and the price tag will be high.

You know, it wouldn't suprise me that Bush would do something like this simply to leave the mess in the hands of Obama, seeing how well he is doing in the polls. Perhaps kind of a "take this" kind of kick in the you know where and hoping the mess would be too much for Obama and crew to handle. You know they are already looking towards 4 years from now and anything they can do to make things harder on a brand new democratic president, the better chances they have at that next election.

A few weeks ago GW secretly ordered an attack on some bases in Pakistan, which is why there is a bunch of stuff going on there now. We will continue to do whatever we damn please so long as we have GW or McCain in office. GW thinks the planet is his little toy he can use to wave in his father's face, and McCain is a dottering fool who thinks we are fighting against the Iraquis and need to Win!

It's almost over, I HOPE!!!

You cannot financially blatantly RAPE countries of their natural resources, and expect the locals to have warm and fuzzy feelings about you. To make things even worse, these rapists are also raping the public purse.....is there no end to this. Unfortunately, our governments are only instruments for these criminals.....they have no allegiance to any country, only to their own selfish ends....Have they not heard of the "win - win" way of conducting business....not rape, kill maim......just to get richer and richer....are the sheeple stirring yet???History will paint these times as a very black period of time...

Noted. More bushwacking from the current occupant of 1700 Pennsylvania Avenue...we are all quite familiar with his brand of 'expansionism.' Thought we had plenty of terrorists in our own country...guess since we cannot find them, we will look under anyone's bed. What a sham! Thank you, Cate.

In my opinion, until the Republicans (read that, Bush, Cheney,Rice) are gone, we can expect this, whenever their fancy dictates. If McCain should be elected (shudder) it will be no different; somehow these people think that sitting down at a table to discuss issues rationally means you concur with all opinions there; where the HELL did this come from?? Isn't that simple diplomacy? We are not kings of the world, nor its Big Brother, just a member of the UN that has "pitched in" troops more than other countries. Bush continues to erode our worldwide image; time to pull up stakes and leave, clown. Don't forget the rest of the circus and your tent. Thanks, Ombretta....this made me steam when I heard about it on the news.

I think his final finale...will of course be another attack---on US...and of course....blame a Middle Eastern country--because after all---why would someone NOT want to attack us??? They have made bloods of many countries, and waltz in and out on murdering spree's...contemplating what country to strike next...the military is already set up in major countries for the day of election for purpose of "riot control" -however-I suspect this will be the beginning of marshall law - they wont leave-and I feel that while we ARE down and out worried about job loss, economy, losing homes, war, ect..that this is perfect time for another "attack on usa" from within...to further fuel our fear and insecurity, to delare sound reasons for marshal law and suspension of our constitution (what is left) and for Bush to remain as president during this "state of emergency"
praying....

from this article at antiwar.com:
http://www.antiwar.com/ips/gharib.php?articleid=13687

"The U.S. Department of Defense has repeatedly declined to comment on the Syrian incident, including to a direct request by IPS, but several press reports have quoted unnamed U.S. officials confirming the attack, and saying that it was ordered by the CIA."

It's no secret to those in the intelligence community that there are "powers" behind the scenes orchestrating events.
It's a good thing the Syrians aren't easily provoked into violence. yet...
They're in the middle of peace talks with the Israelis right now.

And so another HUGE success for the Neocon's rampant DISASTER CAPITALISM.

After almost 8 years of committing every crime in the books, is there anyone who still believes that this miserable coterie of Busharchcriminals didn't have a hand in bringing about 9/11?

Stop killing in my name, damn it. I wrote my Reps, Pelosi, the President and the Vice President. Not that any of them care.

Can you feel it? I can feel it, deep with in, it hurts like hell. Stop killing! You do not have my consent to kill. You will be brought up on War Crimes charges, and be found guilty.

WASHINGTON — Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates said Tuesday that the United States would hold “fully accountable” any country or group that helped terrorists to acquire or use nuclear, chemical or biological weapons.

Oh, really?! And just who the hell does Gates think
he is?
Who died and left him God?

"The Department of Defense".
Hmmpph.
The United States spends more on it's military
every year than every other nation on earth, combined.
Who are we defending ourselves against?
Oh yeah, it's those other 190+ countries on this
planet that our government is constantly pissing-off.
They should just be honest about it all,
and go back to calling it "The Department of WAR".
Defense, my rosy-red Irish ass!
Thanks, Cate.

I agree with you, Tim. Why keep up the pretense of 'Defense' when all our EMPIRE is about is WAR and GLOBAL DOMINATION. In their frantic wet-dreams of course, not in reality. In reality, we can no longer sustain our 'expansion' through 'preemptive aggression'. We are BROKE!

Denice G. (45)

Enough already. Changes must be made in our government. We all know that. I am just so sick of all the mess they have made.
