Google, Microsoft and IBM are singled out for not doing enough to put IT's power to work on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, in the latest release of Greenpeace's Cool IT Challenge.

I remember when I used to donate to Greenpeace. Not any more!.

The planet is cooling contrary to IPCC predictions, yet GP is still trying to get people on board the sinking ship called "man-made climate change"

Temperatures were predicted to increase but are declining (Figure 1). Even their lowest scenario says the world should be at least 0.3¬∞C warmer. Doesn’t sound like much but it equals half the warming they claim occurred in the preceding 130 years.

As physicist David Douglass said, “If the facts are contrary to any predictions, then the hypothesis is wrong no matter how appealing.”

That chart on the CFP article is crap, Judy. Even the IPCC couldn't have predicted the drop in solar output since 2005. And it is wrong to cherry pick from 2002 to 2008, when even the chart shows a dramatic peak in temperatures in 2007. Cooling trend? Why not start with 2007 to make the cooling look even more dramatic?

Here's the real trend, from the 1970s to today:
http://www.woodfortrees.org/plot/gistemp/from:1970/to:2009/plot/gistemp/from:1970/to:2009/trend

The solar activity, same period:
http://www.woodfortrees.org/plot/sidc-ssn/from:1970/to:2009/plot/sidc-ssn/from:1970/to:2009/trend
Note the slight fall.

And here are the CO2 levels, same period:
http://www.woodfortrees.org/plot/esrl-co2/from:1970/to:2009/plot/esrl-co2/from:1970/to:2009/trend
Quite a dramatic rise! Much more consistent with the temperature rises than the solar output.
