I can understand her decision. I think it would be a very hard one to make. Thanks for passing this along, Dee, and thanks Christian.

Thank you Dee and Christian. Truthfully, I rather disliked Angelina for a few years, then I started paying attention to all the good works she and Brad are doing. She is a courageous woman and I thank her for sharing her story.

This is such a waste. She could have used her star power to promote cannabis oil's effectiveness at preventing and curing caner.

I applaud her courage. I hope she can use her influence to help make available the marker tests, surgery and, reconstruction for all women who need it. Not just those who can afford it.

If I were in her situation I would do the same. I have children and pets that need me so much. I choose to have them and I'm responsible to take care of them. It's stupid -if I have that kind of information- to risk illness and die living all them alone.

We just need to remember we are all unique and our choices are made from many specifics. BRCA 1 is a "bad gene" and he moms cancer was very aggressive.

I can not imagine the ,mental torture is any decision to remove a body part.

I wish her a cancer free life

Cancer sucks

Lucky we live in times when strong women aren't afraid to stand up and discuss their private decisions, in hopes of helping others.

She is brave! I heard she will also have surgery to remove her ovaries to lessen her risk of ovarian cancer.
I can't imagine going through all of that in a matter of months. thx

"This is such a waste. She could have used her star power to promote cannabis oil's effectiveness at preventing and curing caner."

Gee Abbe..I say to each their own..And to say that this was a waste..simply because she choose to go the conventional way is sad..When anyone is faced with cancer..especially those that have a certain gene that places them in high risk..They have the right to make their own choices in what they do..And they should not be judged..I commend Jolie for her choice..It takes a lot of strength and Soul searching to come to the decision she did..It is not an easy one by any means..And she is using her "star power" to make women aware that it is okay to lose a breast/or both..To choose life over them..Good for her..

The cure for cancer using cannabis oil..is not true..
There is a great number of unsubstantiated testimonials making this claim..However.. there is no way of knowing..1) if these people had ever had the conditions they claimed..and 2) if they did..certainly no way of knowing if they'd been 'cured'..
And those that have claimed to have been cured by cannabis oil..for instance in the video's/books put out by Rick Simpson..Well the few that could be verified all had conventional treatment and were in already in remission..Yet..that few opted to say that they were cured by Rick Simpson's cannabis oil..And he is not even in the country..He fled somewhere to Europe rather than stay and even try to prove his methods worked..He's a coward..and yet so many make a hero out of him..

When there is anything that makes the claim that it cures everything from cancer to weight loss..to ingrown toenails..it should indeed be regarded with suspicion at best..
If this were true..wouldn't it make sense that those of us who are fighting cancer..those who have lost their lives to it..Or any other serious life/death health issues..Wouldn't "common sense" tell one that we/they all would be flocking there to get it..to do it..Seriously..

There have/are tests being done by Harvard as well as a few others..What they have found in their research is..

"Apr. 17, 2007 The active ingredient in marijuana cuts tumor growth in common lung cancer in half and significantly reduces the ability of the cancer to spread, say researchers at Harvard University who tested the chemical in both lab and mouse studies"

One important note to consider in that article is..
"Preet says much work is needed to clarify the pathway by which THC functions, and cautions that some animal studies have shown that THC can stimulate some cancers. "THC offers some promise, but we have a long way to go before we know what its potential is," she said."

But..again..I absolutely respect and commend Jolie for her fast action and making the right choice for "herself" As well as her going public with it to let women know it is wise to do the right thing..Losing your breasts is far better than dying any day..
And it certainly was not a waste..I don't think she is a foolish woman who would advocate for anything that was unfounded..and or that didn't work..or she herself did not believe in..

Thanks Dee, she made the choice that was best for her, that is a good thing, and for her to openly talk about it might help remove the stigma from having the procedure done, her body, her choice, and that is true for everyone.

Dee said: "He fled somewhere to Europe rather than stay and even try to prove his methods worked..He's a coward..and yet so many make a hero out of him.. "

Just to clarify, Rick Simpson did not leave Canada because of any controversy with his oil, he left because the RCMP raided his grow op, confiscated all his equipment and charged him with the production of marijuana, possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking, possession of marijuana and possession of cannabis resin, even though he wasn't charging anyone for anything. He did all the work and gave it away for free. Although the charges have since been dropped, he is afraid to return because he believes he will be arrested on drug charges again.

Yes.. you are correct Christian..He was in deep trouble with the Canadian government at that time..However as a side note he was being asked to prove that his methods actually worked..And to this day he has not answered to any of it..Not been willing to give any sort of proof to it..

Regardless if he is giving it away freely or charging for it..If it doesn't work..that is the real issue here..And if it did actually work..I can guarantee you..there would be a lot of people flocking to his door for "the cure"

And I still stand behind my statement that he is a coward..not a hero..This is a man who makes the claim to having a cure for not only cancer but other diseases..And he bails out and still does nothing to prove it..
In fact most people have come forth and said it is not any cure in any way..

Care2 comments on BRCA and "preventive mastectomies" hijacked by marijuana and ethics discussion.

How interesting.

Looks like stats right now are: risk of developing breast cancer by age 70 with one of two mutated genes hover around 50%. Some surveys say considerably higher.

I will not comment further on self-mutilation in various cultures, as they all have rationales, some social and some other. Good health to you.
