Noted... okay, I'm going to play the devil's advocate here... people cannot cut off their nose to spite their face. Is there only one place in Indonesia where the cattle can be shipped? Were the Indonesians warned this would happen if the abuse continued or did this just fall out of the clear blue sky? What's going to happen to the cattle that are already on the boats? And, last but not least, what about people's livlihoods? It sounds like the government went off half-cocked without thinking of the consequences... just my personal opinion...

Thank you Jill, very deep subject on compassion towards cattle.
I agree with Shelly Peterson about the 3 last paragraphs also, they should apply to all countries. Animal don't have a nationality but they are equally and globally valuable in existence.

The ban announced today will last up to six months, but the Government is facing demands for a complete end to the $700 million-a-year live export industry within three years.

I watched the video footage of the brutal abuse in some of Indonesia's abbatoirs & I was sickened & outraged. As an Australian, I was one of those who lobbied for the ban & our ultimate goal is to end the live export trade forever. We can ship chilled/frozen meat to these countries & even slaughter their meat according to their religious beliefs but we have to end the live meat trade as we cannot guarantee the animals welfare once they leave Aussie shores.

There is a solution, everybody becomes vegan or vegetarian, so no more cruelty on animals. I don't trust this Governement. I hope activists in this country will check how this ban is respected.

This is the week against live animal export of any kind in Australia, and it is a cruel practice (including sheep etc.). This is a big step in the right direction although six months is not long should be permanent.

I watched the video clip of the bull being beaten and kicked on that vessel - I looked up into the sky and asked why (just like that bull) Humans - there is something seriously wrong with you.
