The report on solid waste management stated that there are 1.1 billion tonnes of waste per year globally, which are projected to double to 2.2 billion by 2025. This, according to the report, will pose a much bigger challenge.

200,000 tonnes of waste a DAY???!!! Yikes!! First of all I would suggest thorough recycling - and secondly the excellent loos first designed by the Rev'd Henry Moule in around 1861 - the earth closet - which does not use water to recycle our physical waste and was found to be clean and sanitary and to preserve life during a horrendous typhoid outbreak when germs were very poorly understood - these are now coming back into fashion with hugely expensive modern plastic 'thrones' - but they could be made by anyone and zillions of gallons of water saved from being polluted!

It also has the inestimable good point that it can break the cycle of some horrendous parasites that rely on human waste going uncomposted straight back into the water supply.
